Yes. It wasn't pretty and filter removal took about an hour.

As much as it pains me...and it does...I am sticking to stock on this thing. It's too original and complete to mess with. Oh how I have agonized on swapping the cam and ditching the EGR system... Hot rodding this would be so much simpler.

Yeah, the engine ran absolutely perfect when I took it out, so the Q-Jet was tuned well/happy.
I'm not too worried about the EGR affecting performance, it's just the engines look so much better without all the hoses, pipes, sensors and valves.
Today I replaced the hard crumbly valve seals which are a joke on SBC engines. ....Found a slightly bent pushrod so I replaced them all....
I usually have aftermarket heads and positive valve seals which are much better when you're using bronze guides. In this case I have cast iron guides and little rubber o-rings lol. hope to have some progress pics tomorrow.

So time consuming.... have the carb to restore next.... and the engine compartment to clean and detail. Still waiting on my transmission gaskets to arrive. It takes 2 to 3 weeks to get any parts now from the U.S...
Also UPS are absolute thieves for shipping. My last 38 dollar item cost me 177.00 in freight and brokerage.
To keep that in perspective, the same items shipped fedex are about 30 dollars freight and brokerage. I live about 30 min from border, so in non Covid times I pay same freight as anyone in the U.S. so that 177.00 would be either free or about 9 bucks.

Yes..There is a little FORD in everything I do....lol...even if it's a Chevy. I used to use small block ford rockers in every chevy small block I built, they are a 1.6 ratio instead of chevy 1.5 and drop right in lol....and cheap.

A little Mustang update in the middle of Nova job.

Ordered my electric fan and water pump controller and water pump from Davies craig, It was cheaper to get it out of Australia. So.. package arrived sort of temporarily.., we use community mailboxes here so when I get a package they are supposed to put a door tag at my house so it alerts me to pick up at post office. I don't go to the mailbox very often, maybe every two weeks so I go there and the door tag and notice card are both in the mailbox. I go down to the post office, and they say because I never picked it up in time they sent it back to Australia. Yay. So because of their screw up it costs me now another 100 bucks and two weeks to get it back.. grrr.
Also I figured out the output for the adapter aims the lower hose spout at the wrong side for the rad i have..oops...well It's not like I haven't modified anything before lol..

Quick question: I can't remember if it was you asking or someone else - but were you looking for marker lights a while back? I have 2 pair of rears, a pair of fronts and a license light sitting here doing nothing. The license light looks like it has a tab that's broken off, but I dunno what the tab's for anymore.

Hey, there, yes I was looking for the "chrome bezels" or trims. I have the actual lamps. The chrome bezels I do not have because my car had the bulky side molding style which I deleted...

I knew someone was asking about something to do with the marker lights! Unfortunately I don't think I have the trim anywhere. I'll try to remember that you were asking if I run across any of that stuff while I'm moving everything around and clearing stuff out. Maybe I have them somewhere, I mean I didn't remember having the lenses.....

lol... thanks....as sexy as a bone stock 180 hp late 70's 350 can look I imagine ... Its cleaned up anyhow. looks better than the oily blotchy mess it started out as.

I put the new leaf springs and bushings in yesterday in a bid to rid its tail dragging rake. The Novas and Camaros of the day always suffered from the ass drag dog scooting rake even from new. I find the replacement springs are always much higher than even original, even though my car came with F41 or sport suspension.
We will see when I get it down on the ground.

Today I am putting in the posi unit and swapping gears. Originally this was a 3.08 car which is the performance ratio for this year, The prior owner swapped in 3.73's which seems like would be a good choice on paper, but this thing just revs too high on the highway for comfortable cruising. Also my saginaw 4 speed has a 1st gear ratio of 2.85 which makes 1st gear kinda useless.
I am swapping in a set o 3.23's that should be a good compromise. The other factor is that a bone stock engine just seems to be straining when you rev it up. If the engine had a cam and headers, It probably would make better use of the 3.73's that are in there, but given 1st gear I would have selected 3.42 even then unless all I was doing is drag racing, and if I was doing that I would ditch the saggy anyway in favour of a munchy (muncie)...

It seems like forever since I have been on the site. Just so much going on. The Nova is pretty much done except I have been waiting a year for interior upholstery. Once that is done, car goes up for sale for room and funds to get back on track. Poor mustang has just been sitting waiting its turn.
I did get a piece of mesh material I am going to make the grille out of, and for a screen for inside the scoop to keep out small birds and other road debris.
