Does anybody know any in depth write ups on the Ford 5.0?? I understand a lot about the motor and the way it works but I would like to know more. I plan on doing an HCI swap next winter and I would just like to know more about the valvetrain.

I am still a little confused on the relationship between pushrods, cam, lifters, rockers and roller rocker ratios. I would like to know more about timing and all that. Basicly I just want to learn more about it before I go tearing into it, I am sure I could do the swap with what I know now I just know it will be easier if it all makes sense to me.

I did a search on google but I am getting a whole lot on the new "5.0" and since it will be years before I can afford that I dont really care to know about it.

So if anybody knows any good links let me know.

Yeah, actually I have spent at least 5 hours just today searching and reading here on stangnet. In fact I do nothing but search SN all day as I just finished college and am waiting for a job. I have read enough to give a normal person a headache but most of todays searches have involved reading about the Trick Flow top end kit.

I will continue searching but if anyone knows of any good links let me know, thanks.

I see this thread might not get any love, I just did another search and read a thread where a guy asked the same question and the only answer was "I hear the internet has some good info"

There are some really good books out there that I can recommend to you.

This one will give you an excellent overview on the cars themselves. This one by Huw Evans and this one by Mark Houlahan both offer very good general instructions for basic projects on the cars. Here is a tried and true book that has been helping people rebuild small block Ford engines for twenty years.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I usually prefer free info but that seems like some good cheap info, I can do cheap. I might just order a few of them books, I might just need a cushier toilet seat....if ya know what I mean.

if you're looking to learn more about pushrod V8s and timing, assembly, tuning etc...searching for HCI isnt going to bring up much more than "Which top end kit is best"...a lot of the REALLY good tech info is hiding inside threads like "which headers will make my car fast"...try doing a google search for pushrod v8 and digging around a bit...its amazing whats buried online
