I've got an 302 (carb w/ mechanical fuel pump). At approx. 3200 to 3400 rpm it goes to spitting and sputtering until I shift gears or slow it down. The car was a 4 cyl but somewhere along the way, the 302 was transplanted. It sounds like it's choking out but there is no electric or manual choke and the choke flap on the front two barrels is positioned to where it does not move. Carb is an Edelbrock (pn 1405)

I have the same carb. It was a mechanic choke. I took mine off because when I sprayed it it would suck the choke closed. I would take the carb off and take the choke plate off. It might not be the problem.. But it'd be out of the way. Also, check your timing, but even if there is no vac advance, it should still advance and not cause any problems. Check to make sure all plug wires are on.. I've had a few just fall off. lol

i had the same prob with mine but at 4000 rpm,s thought id check all the spark plugs and sure enough one was not working, put new plugs in and wow what a diffrence.
