69/70 owners - which overdrive transmission?

I am getting ready to swap a manual trans into a 69 Mach 1 that currently has an FMX. I have a toploader located but would like a 5 speed if no mods are required to the trans tunnel. Can anyone tell me that has been through this how involved it is. I have read about no mods and then i have read that the tunnel has to be lifted to accept the larger OD transmissions. So I guess I am confused.

I heard you only have to "modify" the trans tunnel if you're going to use a 6speed trans.

I would like to convert to a 5 speed as well. I currently have a c4 and when I get my 3.73s I'm going to want OD. I started making a list of all the parts I'll need and unless I can find a donor car that had a standard transmission it's going to be difficult to find all the parts I need for a reasonable price.

I don't know if anyone is interested in this or not, but I have a 3spd with overdrive that I pulled out of an 83ish ford pickup and it looked like the toploader so I measured it up and it is identical to the toploader in my 68. the only difference is the shifter is hardmounted in the tailshaft. With a little shifter modification it would make a nice tranny if your not interested in racing it. I would think those trannies would be a dime a dozen.

I know, I have done this.........

No mods required, the T-5 is a direct swap for the toploader. The only thing that might be a little off is the crossmember, but that is why they make torches and welders

I appreciate the offer but I have already purchased a TKO500 and hydraulic clutch setup a couple of days ago.
