8.8 Rearend Question

Are aftermarket yokes available for the Ford 8.8 rearend? I heard they were not. If so, who makes them? What are you guys that are going fast using that is strong? Are you having a custom yoke welded to the driveshaft?

What do you mean by the yoke?

They make C-clip elimanators.

No. The rear end yoke which attaches to the front of the pig / midsection and driveshaft. I'm not talking about axles.

Rear End Yoke

Nothing is wrong with the stock rear end yoke - I don't actually have one. And before I buy a stock one (or have a beefy one made / welded onto the driveshaft I'm having done) I thought I would see what guys are using. I know the stock stuff is pretty strong - but I don't know how strong.

So - is there an aftermarket provider of 8.8 rearend yokes ?

Someone on here's gotta know. I can't imagine aftermarket not being available.

sorry haven't put that much to a stock yoke. Personally have only put about 500 to it.

Sub 10's? Yeah..... Its called a 9 inch.

There's nmra guys going 9's with 8.8's. Just thought I'd see if anyone on here knew where to go if I needed to get a better yoke.

My brother in law went 10.12 at 136 in an '89 notch with a stock rearend... stock driveshaft too!

I just don't know how much I trust it and thought I'd see if anyone on here knew about it. Guess not.

I think the only REAL issue with the 8.8's are the c-clips, and obviously strength of the stock axles. I've never heard of any problems with the actual yoke. I'd certainly consider upgrading to some better u-joints though.

Yeah, no doubt. That'll be taken care of with the new driveshaft.

C-clips are gone. Still a ****ty design though.

From what I know... The 8.8" is just a smaller version of the 9" to save weight for passenger cars. Assuming that, your stock pumpkin / yoke / etc should be fine. As for the axles and C-clips (as stated above)... if your planning on a dedicated drag car than you already know that those need to go.

Not too similar; 8.8 has an integral carrier v.s. the 9" removable center. The 8.8's do rob less HP however.

That's correct. Kind of like trans' - a c6 vs. a c4 or th400 vs th350.
