I have been working for several weekends on pulling the entire rearend, tearing everything down, and rebuilding. I am working on putting it all back together now. I have never done this exact thing before, but how it goes together is pretty self explanitory except for a few things I would like to ask an expert about. I have bought an entire master rebuild kit and have all new parts except for the c clips (which I would like to know where I can buy some). I am installing an Eaton locker, 373 gears, Superior 31 spline axles, disc brakes, Ford Motorsports girdle, etc.
First, do I put any type of threadlocker or anything on the ring gear bolts? The rebuild kit came with two packages of unknown substances. One is in a package a little larger than a mustard package and is about the color of mustard, the other is in a small tube and is red. Neither containers are labeled so I am unsure what they contain.
Also, I have a metal base and dial gauge but I have never set gears before. Should I attempt it and if so does anyone have any good articles to walk me through the 8.8 rear setup? And what about the pinion depth I keep seeing people speak about? Is this a job I can do? I really want to, but I want it right and cant afford to mess up my nice parts and have to buy more.
Is there any place I can find torque specs? I have a torque wrench and would like to know some specs.
Do I use the differential cover bolts from the stock cover on my new girdle?
Also, is there anything else anyone can think of to help me out after looking at what parts I have and what I am doing? Just trying to make this thing nice and taking pride in my ride to do it right the first time. Thanks in advance. All the help given is greatly appreciate.
