84 85 gt seats in 66 coupe?

i recently bought some 84 or 85 seats with the halo headrest. i would like to install them in my 66 coupe.i've already welded in the stock seat platforms and the newer seats tracks look ok width wise but not length wise. has anybody had any experience doin thsi conversion? also the seats appear to sit too high.

When they're installed they'll look something like this :nice:

Those are the same seats that I want to put into my 65. I thought that all I had to do was BOLT on the 65 seat tracks. Where did you get them?

You'll have to drill two new holes in the seat frame but the '65 seat tracks work just fine. They came from a U-pick it yard. $50, plus a couple hundred to be re-upholstered in vinyl to match the interior. :D

i really like that look.i'm planning on using that idea with some color combination to match the exterior paint.thanks for the ideas and responses. i got my seats for $50 from a guy parting out the 84 gt. they are currently 2 tone gray with the red piping.

i've got the smae seats in my 69 as well, only i dyed them black so they didn't look so out of place. in retrospect i should have sold the original absolutely perfect upholstery and had the seats recovered, oh well live and learn i guess.

I bought a '86 Mustang GT new from the dealership and always liked the seats. I think they are all two tone grey with the red piping except on the SVO's which had the netting in the halos and I believe they were leather.

re: seats

i have a opportunity possibly to obtain some leather upholstery. a woman i work with supposed to bring some samples of leather from rolls that was discarded in a dumpster by a local company that did leather seats for a honda plant.i'm not sure of all the colors but i would like to 2 tone like those above.

The '80s Mustang/SVO/T-Bird Turbo Coupe seats do look slick, and they're quite comfortable, too. I've got a pair of very similar seats from a Turbo Coupe - mine has the inflatable lumbar support and adjustable thigh bolster on the driver's seat. Cushioned headrests, though - but I might go grab some "halos" at the salvage yard (there are a bunch of Escort GTs with those headrests).

Now I just have to find a good upholstery shop to do the new/old look.

I did the same in a 68 and used 67-68 seat tracks, but I dont like the way they make the seat fit me to the car.

Is there any difference if I swap those 67-68 seat brackets
and put 65-66 brackets on my 85 mustang seats?

do you have the short headrests? if so i'll trade you my halo's for 'em. the halo's are cool, but they just don't fit the rest of the car now that i've decided to go mostly stock or at least stock looking, anyway
