86 head question

I just bought me an 86 gt with the 302 ho, it has bbk headers and full exaust and an e cam (doesnt hit) but my question is what would need to be done to change to the 87-up heads? what other mods can be done to this engine to up the hp and tq? How had is it to change to maf?

Some people have been able to bolt on E7's without any problems, others have to notch the pistons. TrickFlows are said to bolt on without any problems as long as the cam stays stock or mild.

If the 86 is stock, it's speed density. MAF didn't hit Mustang until 89', or 88' if it's a California car.

Heads and intake would wake the car up quite a bit. Be careful with the cam though, unless/until the swap to MAF is made.

Did the swap on my 86....

E7 heads and 89 intake ..... i gained 3 mph in the 1/4 ...easy swap.... enough p/v clearance .... Adding a cam with e7's is a different story

Also did a mass air swap.... Took one hour.... used a maf 89 computer and mass air meter.... just used my own wire
plenty guides online for the swap

e7's and e cam on 86 motor is ok that is what is done on my car but if you go with and more lift than 520 you will hit the pistons due to no valve releif the car runs 12.02 on a 125 shoot
