Here are some better pictures of the various splices and disconnected fittings. It looks as though the mass air has been wired in. And I'm wondering if the PO had wired everything to work with the old computer. I seem to remember reading how it could be done when researching the mass air conversion on my bronco?

Codes I got key on engine OFF. It's to late to fire the car up to do a engine run test.

Some codes I can't seem to find, I videoed it, but my battery died 3/4 through

Side note, the fuel pump stayed on the entire test, aren't they usually only supposed to run for a second then quit, maybe the code 87?

How do I go about figuring out what is the correct ecu to match the MAF?

You can't run a MAF with a speed density ECU. It's one or the other. You need an A9L.

The issue here is determining if the Originsl owner changed the wirinhbsround or just pinned in the 4 wires only for the MAF.

87 and 82 are codes relating to fuel pump relay fAilure...however you say the pump runs?

Code 31 is EGR

Code 54 is air charge temp sensor out of range. I don't even see it mounted in the lower intake. Possible nothing is even plugged in here

In reading it looks like there are several ecu's depending on year, and I was under the impression they were matched to the MAF sensor by year as well.

At this point I'm kind of in grocery list mode to see what I need to get it running right.

Yes, the fuel pump runs, car drives, other then it cutting out under hard acceleration, and sporadic idle.

There looks to be the intake manifold air sensor lying on the intake plenum , plugged in but not installed anywhere.

Will a MAF ECU plug into the existing harness? Will it all need changed, or just check the splices they made and be sure they're correct and go?

You may need a wiring diagram to help you out, you need to get the wiring sorted out.
Ecms are programmed (if thats the correct term) for 19lb injectors, either speed density or maf, auto or stick, with the exception of 93 cobras used 24lb injectors.

I ran the KOER test and come up with code 11, which is ecu function, and a code 14

There's a prominent whistle, you hear it better on the video then in the car over the exhaust, but it's either the cold air, or a vacuum leak I haven't found

How do you mean. It's hard to start at times, and idle searches, it holds a high idle ~1400, and stumbles under heavy acceleration in first or second

By the way....the air temp sensor dies not have to go in the intake. Some explorer intakes are not drilled for them. You can put it in the intake pipe going to the throttle body. You'd have to seal it in with jb welds or epoxy. The wires and connector will route over there without cutting but you will have to unwrap them. That could be why it idles high and stumbles.

The egr is deleted on your car with a plate on the back side of the throttle body spacer. There are two types of explorer intakes...

The one with the gap in the center will not allow the EGR to function. If you have the other one it will help to put an EGR valve back on the car. To check to see if it will function you'd have to remove the POs plate. There will be 2 circle holes behind it. Start the car and you should feel exhaust gas coming out of one of those holes.

The dreaded throadel body whistle!
You can try to knock the sharp edges around the iac opening down a little but you likely will have to live with it, I have for years. Mine is a cheap edelbrock/bbk, what do you have?

Picture of the throttle body, stickers about gone but maybe you guys recognize it.

The dist is a motorcraft looks to be original, cap and rotor look used, but not trash, wires look new.

The intake looks to be the EGR type, doesn't look to have the gap in the runners, and a "custom" block off plate.

The object you have your fingers on is not the tb, thats an egr spacer, dosen't matter anyway. You need to get the wiring sorted otherwise your chasing your tail.

This may help you with the wiring for a maf conversion.
