'87 Coupe Going Under The Knife... Looking For A Good Forum

Granted this is a bit older than the mustangs I love to race, but this is where it started. Nothing cooler!

I'm the one they mentioned with the GM powered fox here.

This forum has a great group of guys, very friendly and knowledable. There are some cool projects going on here as well. For that reason it's always been the only forum i really hung around on.

That being said, if you're going to swap a non-Ford powerplant and are looking for advice/space to share your progress, I don't think this will be the place you're looking for.
My project doesn't get much hate, and if it does I don't see it. But I also don't get a hell of a lot of feedback/interaction. Most don't like the "off-brand" swap or have as much knowledge in the LS platform so there isn't much to discuss. I lost interest in updating my thread.

Unfortunately (I realize yours is older Chevy tech) places like LS1tech and similar forums aren't that great. Lot of hostility and bad info. Though there are some great guys on those boards as well.

My advice would be to hang around here for all your chassis type questions and from the looks of it you've got solid Ford knowledge to share as well, and maybe dare to venture to a place like Yellowbullet for drivetrain tech.
This place is worth hanging around just for the people.

Most Internet forums are dying off :(

Your build is beyond what a lot if us can fathom. That car is an amazing piece of craftsmanship that only a few can accomplish.

That being said....you seemed to get a lot of feedback....like...that ugly shifter mock up ( before you made it look awesome )....the tubular front end ( that you almost didn't do )...the issues with the tuning set up...people give feedback where we can.

Its not our fault that you jumped of the cliff into the world of car craft genius. Its not that we don't want to give feedback....but its like telling a pilot how to fly a plane.

It wasn't meant as a dig towards anyone.

A few of you have stepped in to say "uh, what the hell are you doing?" a few times and helped put me back on track lol. And @a91what helped me a ton on the MS3 setup, no doubt. I just realize this isn't the place for cross breed swaps and my brief posts leave little to be discussed. No hard feelings at all, I hang around for Mikes rants and to hopefully someday see @Davedacarpainter finally post a picture of the car when paint is finished. Lol

Ummm...this place is slowly turning into " that type of place ". We have 2 now....and an Aussie headed turbo Fairmont.

Maybe things will pick up over on your thread now...I'm always watchin'

There is a fine line between genius and madness.
I really don't care what propells your hot rod, necessity is the brother of madness, or something like that.
Nickpo and tanner are the weird uncle's around here, we may snicker and poke fun at em but they always get invited to the party.

Nice to meet you.

I think I found your build thread. Is it "Tannerc91gt's......91 Gt- It Runs, Again....nevermind"? If so, one of the things that I'm not sure about because I haven't tried it on any of my previous mustangs is a manual steering rack. On your thread it looks like you're running one. I know that Flaming River sells one, but I also KNOW there has to be one cheaper that works just as well. I have no desire to buy the Flaming River piece and pay four times the price because of the name attached to it. That's kind of like buying a front fender from AM or LMR for $199 when I can get the same fender from Rock Auto for $55. Have you got any tips for me in that department?

I say shoot for madness.
If you reach it, mission accomplished.
If you fail, then you'll have to find a way to settle for genius.

Well, I've got the BBC with a cast Scat 4.000 crank. That'll keep me limited to 454 (or 460 once it's .030 over). I was going to use a forged crank that I got with another block, it's an Eagle 4.250, but once I tore it down I found it was 0.030 undersize on all of the main and rod journals. It's not worth it to me to spend the money to have it final polished and renitrided. For the amount of $ I'd have into that I'd be better off just going with a new Callies 4.250. I figure I'll run the Scat, port the heads I have, and juice the hell out of what I've got. See just how much a cast Scat 4.000 crank can take. In the mean time I'll look around for another engine to build for when I grenade this one, which I'm pretty sure will happen at some point trying to push a car to high 9's on a cast crank. Whatever the new mill is, it'll most likely be another Chevy so I don't have to go through the fun of dumping piles of cash into a new trans as well. The TH400 I have is going to be more than strong enough to withstand anything that I'll be able to afford to put in front of it.

I say I'm shooting for madness

Manual steering racks are available from several suppliers to include Ford. ( the 79-80 4 bangers could be had w/ manual steering stock) I used a company named uni-steer on the red car, and the rack wasn't anywhere near that price for an aftermarket ( non-shiny) stock replacement.
