94 GT question

I used to own a 95 GT and I loved it, so I was looking for another SN95 car and ran acorrs this deal. 94 GT, teal with grey cloth seats, very light hit in front, needs a fender and wheel. I went to look, and it's weird, no damage to the bumper cover at ALL and both bags blew, wasn;t reported to insurance compnay so he is going to just replace both bags when he fixes the fender. the car was owned by a 72 year old woman who bought it new, and as it sits it has 11,260 miles on it. it is SUPER clean, interior and underhood are awesome, could use a full detail but no paint damage. He is asking $6500 for it when it is fixed....good deal??

a crashed car is a crashed car. 11k miles or not. For $6500 you can find yourself a supercharged or modded car....or buy a stock one for $3k or around there

I am not saying that the car isn't good for a purchase with the hit you describe,
but not for anywhere near that kind of dough. Any hit that will damage a wheel
and blow the bags has the potential for serious unseen damage that you might
not find until you have done the deal. Yeah, it's good that it isn't getting a salvage
title, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have issues that will rear up down the road.

Get the price WAY down, or spend the same money on a much better car IMO.

agreed,$6500 is insane
around me,there are some very good stangs for around $3000-$3500.
unless he lowers the price WAY down,keep looking.

even with only 11K original miles and the rest of the car being mint? I was told it needs a fender, wheel, A arm and strut, possibly a K memeber

kbb.com lists a 94 gt with 11,600 miles with all options in excellent condition at $4495.00.private owner
a fender i would understand.that i would consider a light hit.
but how hard of an impact would it be to take out an a arm,strut,wheel and k member?

if you had some pics,that might help everyone help you make a decision.
but i pretty sure everyone will tell you that it's way overpriced.

I don't think you are appreciating what kind of hit it takes to knock out anything
behind the wheel or set off the air bags. It is very likely that the frame is tweaked
on that car. You will battle that sort of damage constantly for the rest of the car's
useful life. And even though there is no salvage title, you still legally must tell the
next buyer about the damage, and if you keep it long enough to be a collector item,
the next buyers will see the damage. You can never hide damage like that.

Like posted, that car WITHOUT the damage only books for 4500.
With that kind of damage, it is far less. Pull up the KBB book value,
print it off, and show it to them. That will pull their heads out of the
clouds and maybe you can walk away with a price that you can be
happy with in the future when you can't keep tires or alignment due
to the front end damage. If they can't take what it's worth, walk.

FYI - The air bags in our cars will deploy VERY easily guys. I hit the brakes, @15mph, car did a nose dive and hit a SUV right where the airbag sensors are right out in front of the radiator - (just b4 I put the big engine in). Basically just buckled the hood and no serious damage..just $$ to fix. But air-bags..BOOM! I drove the car away. Now, a-arm and suspension stuff? I would definitely have it looked over. Maybe she went over a curb too.

well the K memeber and A arm were a srt of "worste case scenario" he hadn't had a chance to lok it over completley.

I don't know about other folks, but I wasn't trying to scare you from it.
I was just pressing the idea that they need to come off the price quite
a bit. I would still try to get the thing if I were you, but I would introduce
them to KBB and haggle the price way down. You never know until you
try. If it doesn't work, well then you can walk away with the knowledge
that you tried, and if they have your number, they might call when they
realize the are stuck with the car at that price. Good luck!

i wouldn't do it. i popped a curb once and trashed a wheel. took it to my body guy to look over and the frame was torqued. it doesn't take much on a unibody car to whack it out of shape. look at chris's(blackvert) mishap, he popped a curb and needed new wheels, a-arm, k-member, the whole nine yards.
