95 Cobra T5 vs 95 GT T5

replacing the t5 with another....

is there anything that i should know before tackling this? any precautions or installation tips? anything i need to grease? anything i screw up or is it just a really simple swap?

If your going to powershift you really need to know 2 things.

1. have an anftermarket shifter with stops to help keep press. off the forks.

2. ANY t5 maintained well or not powershifted with a any shifter over a long period of time will fail. The shifter just helps it last alittle longer. So dont be shocked when it does go.

I have seen t5's go with fairly little power and some last being treated like a 2$ whore. I am one who has treated mine rough...powershifting often and running almost 2x's the max trq. rating threw it (on the bottle). It does make some moaning but I fully plan on doing a G-force/astro super alloy kit to it.

One thing I think that helps is making the clutch the weak link...I think its alittle better toasting a factory style clutch (as long as the actual clutch met. says valeo(sp?) on it its not going to be too bad) that has a lifetime warranty ***read free after first purchase*** is better than at least 500$ for a rebuild kit or worse....at least it will buy you some time.

everyone must power shift but me

nope, i dont either. ive been running my stock cobra t-5 w/ a centerforce df clutch. so far the cobra has seen 3 superchargers and is currently getting a tubo kit installed. hopefully it will last long enough to buy some time before i go w/ a t-56 or g-force. on the other hand, i broke my stock t-5 in my 90gt (snapped the out-put shaft) on the street. (no, it wasnt wheel hopping or anything) only power mod to the gt was headers and an air intake.

talk about "luck of the draw"

Anyhow I got Cobra geared T5 and 4.10's cruising RPM on the freeway is always 2800-3100 depending on speed, with 17/245/40 tires. (60-70mph)

I suspect your Tach or Speedo ... or ... both may be off

I did not have a tire size of 240
but
I did have the sizes of 235 & 245

I calculated for 235's
2304@60 & 2688@70

For 245's I got
2274@60 & 2654@70

Does anyone come up with anything different
or
Is there something I am missing here

umm..Correct me if Im wrong..But I dont think you are supposed to be "Power Shifting" any kind of transmission.
Besides..
It isnt necessary

How about a ... Perspective from an ......

"Old Timer Stick Trans Is A Must Have Gear-Head" :D

Yes ... T-5's don't take too well to that method :rlaugh:
but
Some stick trans are built for that sole purpose

Power Shifting ... If done correctly ... It can shed ET :D
and
Its a Whole Bunch of Fun

Way more so than .... Stab and Steer ;)

i drive like a old man.

im thinking and hoping i will be ok with a cobra t5 and and 300 rwhp for a while.

( beginning to wonder if i ever will get that motor started/done )

Mine has lived just fine with my current combo
since the first part of 2003.

I do not do full-on drag like launches with sticky tires , power shift,
or other behavior that would stress the trans to or beyond it's
breaking point.

I mean ... The little trans is known for being not all that forgiving
if you are prone to do the above stuff on a regular basis.

Just use common sense :D

are you guys POSITIVE the clutch i have in my 95 GT T-5 (centerforce II) will fit in a 95 Cobra T-5 ?

im under the impression the input shaft is different or spline count?

i really do not want to have to buy another clutch

Here is a thought

Go online or to a parts house and see if both applications
use the same disk :D

just got off the celle with centerforce.

they said there will be no problems with my clutch working . he also said he *would not* resurface the flywheel if the clutch is only 1.5 years old. just bolt the tranny up and go. but i dont think that flywheel have ever been resurfaced...

a nearby performance shop said not to worry about resurfacing it either

i never resurface a flywheel

if its got cracks or gouges just replace it

Just my 2cents but powershifting I have noticed serious gaines in ET at the dragstrip between 1 and 2 tenth's in the 1/8th. I believe that it was mostly due to the throttle tip in retard of the stock computer. I would say that it's not something that I do regularly though.
