Hi, I am new to the forum. I bought a 96 Cobra SVT SC (procharger) in April w/less than 48K. It now has a busted piston. I've heard it may be better to get a new (same) engine to replace it, as that particular engine was largely hand-built. Cost/estimates received on a new engine vs. new pistons and rods (forged performance) are about the same. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated :). Thank you for your time. I've searched this forum, too, so if I missed a post that covers this please just point me in the right direction and I can go from there :P. I've also checked SVTPerformance.com and will be checking modularfords.com (besides auto wrecking yards online to see if they have the 4.8 DOHC on hand). I realize I won't know more till the engine is pulled, just trying to determine the best course of action...

1st - Welcome aboard.

2nd - If you have the luxury of having a few speedshops in your region (preferably ones that have 4.6L cobra engine building experience), contact them for rebuild estimates, pricing, etc.

It's probably better to build up your existing engine with the forged goodies instead of looking for a used cobra engine. Do it once and do it right the first time IMHO.

You are running a supercharger, so you might as well make sure your engine is built right and will be able to stand up to the boost you are throwing at it.

Get it dyno tuned as well...g'luck!
