ok, so i have a 97 3.8L/T5 and my good friend has an entire engine out of a 95 GT for sale. the 5L has EVERYTHING (intakes, manifolds, front accessories, and even the engine harness) so i want to swap it for my sluggish 3.8L.

being that the 5L has all the necessary wiring and what-not, what all would it entail to bolt in? ive done numerous v8 swaps, carbureted conversions, etc., but never an EFI swap.

im just unsure of any differences in the CHASSIS harnesses. will i be able to plug in the 5L engine harness to my car's harness, or will i have to change wiring pins or anything? i realize i will have to get a GT speedo, maybe upgrade my fuel pump, get a pcm from a 94/95 5speed, etc. but im concerned as far as the hooking up of all things necessary to make it fire and run.

i know this cant be too difficult, the only reason im wondering if there are any differences is because the donor car is a 95 5L and my car would have come with a 4.6L... did the chassis harnesses change at all?

have any other information i should check out? id really appreciate it. thanks a million!

A 95 GT/Cobra would have come with a 5.0L.

Run through Sorscode's page. He outlines the 94-95 swaps well, and IIRC has even done a OBD-II retrofit to a 5.0L engine, which I thought was kinda neat.

He has sticky info on his forum too.

i know a 94/95 mustang would have come with a 5L. ive done this many times before., just never keeping one fuelie. i usually carbureted my swaps. this is my girlfriends car, so driveability is NUMBER ONE! dont wanna hear her bitch about it. i just wanted to know if i would have to swap anything like the dash/gauge cluster harness, any plugs or connections, etc.

thanks though...

This swap is not really a good idea.
In theory it's cool, but going backwards is going to cause a ton of issues. This is why saleen stopped putting 351's in modular cars.

Cars went to the obII system in 96, so to pass inspection you are going to need that to function. Good luck with that.
In some states this swap is downright illegal.

Even with a free engine and trans, i bet you spend a couple of more grand to get it done right. Likely exceeding what it would of cost to buy a 94/95 5.0 Which really aren't that expensive to begin with.

IMO, if you attempt this, there is a good chance all you will do is ruin a perfectly good car.
