Adding Cats to Bassani X

I just added a SS Bassini X to my 03 Gt. I'm really impressed with the performance, it seems to have really picked it up on the top end. The only thing I don't like about it is the raspiness. Yeah, I know I shouldn't have got a X pipe but I wanted it for the top end that I got. I'm not sure if its the raspiness or not, it sounds like air blowing out when you mash it hard and no rumble. I've done a search and found that the catted X is not as raspie. My X is a five peice does Bassani make a cat that I can add to it? If I do will it take my gain away? What about a catback? Right now I have the stock catback. Is there a catback I can add that will help with this without making the thing to loud? BTW, it sounds great at idle, low rpm's, and even when it winds out. Its only between 3 and 4k I get this "air blowing" sound. Is this normal.

the bassani catback sounds really good with it with its baffles in. i have the bassani x that comes with cats and the offroad pipes to put in. i have been running it catless, loud, but it sounds good. Definate gain up top. Yes, the cats do change the sound alot, helps mellow it out and kills some of the rasp. It wont hurt your gain much because they flow great, as a matter of fact, the high flow cats they use are very nice, top notch since they fixed them. Check their site or call them and i bet they can hook you up. i have gotten used to the less rumble, oh the cats will get it to burble a little more, especially when you downshift, but i am very satisfied with mine.

The way that I feel about my O/R X-pipe being raspy is this.. while driving you are located pretty close to the X-pipe instead of the mufflers or exhaust tips, to me it sounds more raspy than it does inside than outside

I just got a catted bassani 2 days ago, i have it connected with borla mufflers, its not a loud as i wanted it to be, i was thinking of making the offroad legs or gutting the cats out, mines is aluminum thats why it only came in 3 piece, i did also notice a big difference after 5k rpm, not as lazy...

I also hear this air thing, i thought it was a leak but i only hear it when i gas it somewhat alot then it goes away, i dont know if this is the raspy thing everyone is talking about.

Yeah, I believe your right. To me it sounds raspy but I had a bunch of people compliment me on the sound of my car last night.

Thanks for the info, I emailed bassani last week but haven't got a response yet. I'll call them tommorow. BTW, which catback do you have?

Yeah, that air thing is exactly what I was talking about. I thought it was a leak also.

dont gut your cats, you will not like the sound... best way is screw driver (long) and hammer. The problem is that the hollow chamber from where the cats were will cause a nasty hollow reverberating sound... just doesnt sound too good. Just get ahold of some off road pipes to put in there. As to that air issue, there is a good chance it can be a leak, have a friend cover the tailpipes while its running and have a listen and just feel around. If there is a leak, you will feel it under there. make sure to check the passenger side connection to the exhaust manifold. did you put in a new gasket? mine was leaking there when i first put in my x.

oh i forgot, gutted cats also cause lots of turbulence in the exhaust and can acctually hurt your power a little bit.

i didnt put no gasket on any, my stock one didnt have a gasket or i didnt see it unless it got stuck to the manifold and i never saw it. around how much do u guys think a shop would charge me for the offroad legs??
