Hi everyone , im a newbe here from the land down under i own a 68 convertible , i hurt my 351w last week and decided to go the 408 way , to try and save costs im using as much from the old donk as i can , would love to here some advice on my combo.
AFR 205's
scat 4030 forged steal crank and H beams
SRP forged pistons
rpm air gap ,from old donk
comp cam xr280r solid roller 242/248@50 608/614 lift 110 lca, old donk
BG 750vac , from old donk
will be going to 11.2.1 comp (we have 98octane on tap here)
what sort of power should i expect , i know going for a vic jnr intake will give me more hp but i have a 3.25 rear and down low torque is more important to me than out right power, i also have a aode with 4r70w internals at 70mph revs at 2100rpm in fourth ,its more of a freeway warrior that will see the drag stripp 2-3 times a year ,will cutting down the middle divider on the rpm air gap make a difference and where would it make a difference( more up top? less torque down low?) before i forget has a precision industries 3500rpm stall which was made for my 351w so will probably be a little higher now maybe.
I look forward to your thoughts
cheers chris.

According to edelbrocks web site its been desighned for strokers aswell here is the quote from there web site i copied and paste here

Ford 351 Windsor V8
RPM AIR-GAP 351W (1500-6500 rpm)
Designed for street and high performance 351-400+ c.i.d. 351-W Ford V8s, the RPM Air-Gap incorporates the same race-winning design that's been used on our Victor Series competition intakes for years. The air-gap design features an open air space that separates the runners from the hot engine oil resulting in a cooler, denser charge for more power. Larger cross sectional area and a taller carb flange than #7181 for compatibility with large displacement, stroker 351-W based engines. Includes nitrous bosses. No provision for exhaust heated chokes and no exhaust crossover. Aftermarket 4-bbl carbs are not compatible with Ford Auto Overdrive Transmission (AOD) unless used with Lokar bracket SRK-4000, see note below.

sounds like close to what I did on my 67 vert, you should pull well over 500hp, yes the stall will go a bit higher, I have a lentech w 10" that was for my 351w and with the 408 it def stalls higher. How is the hood clearance with the air gap? The air gap should work fine the only place the vic will shine is above 5500 rpm by about 10-15 hp but the air gap will make more power everywhere else.

You should be over 540 at the crank (without accessories). I have a very similar build; my cam is a bit milder hydraulic roller and a Torker II intake. Mine made 537 @ 5800 (on race gas) so you should beat that with the higher compression and a bigger cam.

are you running drop mounts or a M2 suspension? untill I dropped my eng even with a reg rpm my hood clearance was like 1". I didn't think you could have a left hand drive car down under or am I seeing things?
Cheers Mate'
No your not seeing things, we are allowed to register left hand drive cars that are 30 years and older , I have a drop down air cleaner which gave a little more room under the hood i got the lowest drop i could get , mate you could't fit a bee's d!@k between the top of the air cleaner and hood, I can't lower the motor any more as the header collector hits the road on big bumps now , i have a custom made set of 1 3/4 that step up to 1 7/8 , I also have a RRS Front end (coil overs )
cheers chris.
