i'd do a blower IMO, they work great and add alot of power.

and you dont have to really "wait" for the power to come in, there power is there very fast. with a basic blower setup the boost comes in at 3k or so. and builds up to its peak around 5500 or so....

pulley it up and it will make boost FASTER and MORE, instead of making say 3 psi at 3k and having it peak at 9 or something. if you add a pulley it will make say 5-6 psi at a little less than 3k and will peak 12 psi.

you get the idea of what i am saying.

i did a mild HCI to my car. it was thumper heads, b-cam and an intake. it made some decent power and ran pretty good. but i got used to the power within a few months and the car felt like a pig, a nice TFS kit or something would have made better power but i stil would have gotten used to it.

so there i was, with all these recently installed heads and etc and i WANT more power. well i surely dont want to tear back into the engine to upgrade. i considered n20 but i didnt want to have to turn it on and etc etc, sort of felt like cheating in a way. i didnt want to meet some LS1 or something and get my doors blown off because my n20 bottle would be in the trunk turned off and i couldnt reach it to turn it on.

i had always wanted a blower so i decided to get one. i started out with the 5 psi kit, made a HUGE difference, the car ran great, picked up gobs of power. once again i got used to that. how can i get more power??? I KNOW, i can add a pulley.

i added a 7 inch crank pulley, and a UPR pipe and it made 9 psi, ran even faster, pulled harder, more boost, and it came in stronger. started to get used to the power again lol.

then i blew a HG, wasnt tuned, i saw it coming, no biggie.... so i tore it down. while i was at it i had my heads upgraded with bigger valves, and changed cams.

i am also going to tune the car when it get it running. i alsio got a deal on some blower pulleys so i can run more boost.

a nice HCI is nice but you will get used to the power and eventually add a blower or n20 or something.

the HCI installation will be more difficult and involved but its no biggie if you work on cars, it just takes time.

the blower will be a true bolt on installation. can be done on a nice saturday.
if you need more power, some cheap pulleys will feed your horsepower hunger.

for a stock engine, a nice mild blower kit can be added with the FMU keeping the stock injectors and it will make some good power but wont be radical enough to really REQUIRE a tune, you can get away with no tune and be safe IMO with a stock engine under 10 psi. anything past that a tune is highly advised to keep detonation away

a HCI really doesnt need a tune at all, the stock injectors and EEC can easily handle a basic HCI, if you start getting radical, huge cam and BIG valve heads and etc for higher rpm,. a tune will help. but still isnt as critical as the blower car.

heres an idea. take the stock engine, throw a blower on it. have fun with it, if you need some power add some pulleys. while you drive it around. find a nice 351 block, stroke it, get the nasty heads and cam etc, build it for low compression. spend some time and make it boost worthy

get it all ready then find a nice T trim or YSi head unit, bolt it on to the brackets you already have and install the 408 or w/e with the blower making 15+ psi
and get it tuned and HOLD ON, because it would make INSANE power.

With some of the power potential being discussed, you need to look into an aftermarket block

5spd gt, your combination is the one I am highly considering. The 300rwhp, streetable, 20mpg sort of n/a combo . Your car, and similar ones (such as Grady's) are inspiration to me. Now im thinking.. would a combo such as yours be acceptable for a pig heavy 94 vert like mine? The last thing Id want to do is spend $3000 on a solid streetable h/c/i, but still feel rather doggish. If so, maybe a kenne bell setup may suit me a little more.

Also, another question for you, would a combo such as this need 93+ octane? I think it should be fine with regular 87 gas, but just checking

ok here's one for ya guys, how bout a really basic h/i stock cam, some gt40 irons, and an exploder intake, bolt ons and 9psi, would it make 400rwhp? if that is so all I need is a blower lol..

Check out killercanary (that is his username). He has got a 95 vert that weighed 36XX lbs for his race weight, and he had a stock 302 bottomend, with AFR 165s, FTI custom camshaft, and Edelbrock Performer intake, shorty headers, full exhaust, 4.10:1 gears, bolt-ons....

He was trapping 112.51 mph with 304 rwhp. He was a good driver and had good average horsepower in his powerband.

If you do not think 300 rwhp is enough, then you may want to add some boost to the mix as well.

It is just my personal opinion that an N/A combination is more forgiving. Having boost, is not efficient to me because it runs off the engine as well. But you can make some good power with them.

This is just in my personal case, but my mpg actually increased after I added h/c/i. The car had to work less to get up to the same speed.

I ran 93 octane and never tried anything less. I could have drove with less, but I was a spirited driver and always preferred having the higher octane in my car.

Good Luck
