AFR tuning: Eq. recommendation

Was always hard to see buying one N/A. Had to do it when I went turbo. Would recomend it to anyone trying for HP, or even gas mileage. Think the LM-1 may discontinued though. PM 12sec67 though. I think he is getting rid of his for a pillar mount real soon. Either way, a wideband REALLY help.
 
I used to have the LC1 for the neon.....but it fried in short order, now I have the AEM, in all honesty I like the the AEM much better....it comes with a gauge, the controller is more convienently packaged, I always found the LC1 controller ackward and hard to keep out of the way, the LC1 cost $180 when I got it, the AEM cost $225, the only bad thing about the AEM, is the fact that its a gauge, some people may not like a digital gauge in their classic...I am planning on an AEM unit in my mustang as well...I plan on building a flip-up panel to hide both the boost and the AFR gauge in the console(since both gauges are really only needed while tuning). That being said, I agree that unless its a really wild NA engine you probably dont need one for tuning, its a good thing to have, but NA, a narrowband sensor should be fine

I personally have no experience with it, but it's cheap.

I've always wanted one to tune my car, and am considering the AEM and hiding it in my ashtray so it's out of sight while parked or at shows. That is if I ever get one and if it fits. Minor detail though :shrug:
 
its only 2 1/16" diameter and a depth of about 2 1/2" or so, so it should fit....also there are other options, wa looking on ebay awhile back and they had a good deal on the autometer wideband, the deal I was looking at had it priced roughly the same as the AEM, unfortunately I had just bought the AEM, which sucked for me since the rest of my gauges are autometer...at least the AEM unit I got has both white and black gauge faces, and a silver and a black bezel, so it still matches(you can also flip the gauge face over and it reads lambda instead of AFR once you change a setting....useful for fuel other than gasoline, such as ethanol, LP, or possibly hydrogen(though hydrogen AFRs are so lean I'm not sure even lambda would help there))
 
If you do the conversion in your head, then you don't even really need to change the AFR display. λ=1.0 will display as 14.7 on the gage regardless of the fuel, even hydrogen.

And yes, I would bother to use a wideband even on a mild NA engine. It will make ironing out an accurate tune much easier than repeating plug checks.
