I have VT stg 1s, and i LOVE them. You can expect about 290+RWHP with your mods With the stg1s. You MAY bump 300 with stg 2s....but beware that they only outpower the stg 1s past roughly 4500RPMs and loose alot of power below that compared to the 1s. Depends on what you want, the stg 1s are pretty tame at idle but are noticable if you listen. The stg 2s are noticble at idle if you are listening or not lol. And with stg 2s you will NEED a spring change, and that requires removeing all front accesorys and is a huge pain overall. Stg1s can be popped in by simply popping the valve covers and holding the timing gears up and tight durring install (2 people required).

And even though you said no nitrous comments, I will anyways ....Scott @ VT claims that their VT (stg1 and 2) LOVE nitrous, and make great power with it. And I would reccomend VT over comps unless you were getting a S/C.

i have VT stage 2's and they are awesome too. I don't think you can go wrong with anything from VT. The stage 2's are quite lumpy but not annoying. They bounce the car a little and make it sound awesome. They pull really, really hard up top. My car is still making power when I'm hitting the rev limiter at 6500rpm. Hotmustang331 is right about the power down low. Make sure to get 4.10's with the VT stage 2's. I have 3.73's and it could use just a little more help at low rpm. I am by no means saying it's a slouch but it can use that extra little bit to get you into the rpm band. But when it does I bet there are few cams that can beat them.

I dont know how much the cams lowered my ET, since I installed them with the PI heads & intake, and longtubes all at the same time. But with that my ETs dropped from 15.3's @ 89-91 to 13.7's @ 101-103.

Stage II idle clip of my car

Edit: It feels just like it did stock up to 3500rpms, then it rips up to redline.

I got crower stage 3 blower cams....612 lift on intake/exhaust - unfortunately I don't have the car back till tomorrow so I can probably drum up a sound clip of it idleing then. As far as power goes, I kinda did the whole "well..while I'm here..might as well do the heads..more boost..." so...my old tune was horrible, had the wrong plugs, rich A/F - it put down like 350 RWHP. I did the cams, heads, 4 more psi of boost, and a PI torque converter, still running rich since my PRO-M univer MAF is a piece of **** and i had to use the stock MAF - @ 431/404

Stage 2's here. Car is strong. You will need a tune after the install, I was way lean.

When you did your head swap and L/t headers. What year did you get for the headers? I've been told that on my 97 that it has the air injection into the exhaust and that restricts what I can get from places? Wouldn't I be able to use L/t now and use the same if I did a PI swap later or do I have to get the same year headers as the heads?

I got the Jet-Hot longtubes for the 96-04's. As far as I know all the 4.6L 2V years take the same headers. Someone will chime in if Im wrong.

I went from a 13.58 @ 100.29 to a 13.30 @ 104.14 with the addition of VT cams, JLT RAI, and BBK 75MM TB....and ofcourse Tims killer tune.
Doesnt sound like much, but A. my 60 was over .1 worse on the 13.30 run, and I ran at a 660ft DA track (40 ft track on 13.5). D.A for the 13.30 run was 1900 ft, resulting in a corrected ET of a 13.02 @ 106.38.

I run the Comp 270AH's,like alot of people I had issues with piston to valve clearance but since you are running stock pistons you should be totally fine. They have a quite noticable idle and the car is a little soft below 3000 and rips really good above 3500 rpm. No compatability problems with the nitrous either. If I were to do it again I would seriously consider the the 1 step smaller XE262's. I think it would match a stock headed, stock intake motor better and give less drivability problems. The long term goal is a P-51 intake and p&p'd heads so I am still happy with my decision to get the 270's. I dropped .5-.6 off my NA times with the cams and underdrive pulleys.
