Has anyone here EVER gotten an alternator pully off a DOHC without an impact?
I'v gotten one off before on an old 84 Buick skyhawk (wasn't easy)

I'm going to attempt a pulley (BBK's) install Sunday. The alternator pully really doesn't look that much different in size. I may leave it. Eventhough the BBK sure is shiney!
I've also heard you should soak the drive pully sammich in hot water to expand it a bit. good/bad idea?

thanks!

I'd hate to be the negative one, But bbk shouldn't even be considered for underdrive pullies. If I where you i'd return them and get a set of asp pullies instead. Not as nice looking but they are more reliable.

I changed mine with an air rachet. Find someone who will let you borrow or oversee your useof an impact gun, the alternator pulley only takes five minutes. BTW, I am running Steeda underdrives and if I remember the stock and steeda pulley are the same size. Don't know if that helps or not, but I know of two guys who didn't change them. Could be different for other cobras though.

If you think the alternator pulley is hard - wait till you get to the crank pulley bolt!!

I had both my alternator nut and my crank bolt loosened by a local shop for me...it was impossible to budge either one with hand tools...I just had them break them loose and then tighten them back up enough to get me back home so i could put the pulleys on there...

hey misouri guy. what shop do you use?
I'm in st.louis as well. I've used G's motorsports off of olive for several things. They're pretty good guys there. They would probably loosen em up no problem.
Thanks for the advice all!

I took it up to Meineke on N. Lindbergh across from Florissant Meadows shopping center...The guy up up there that runs the place is named Chris...He's a Mustang guy and he put my old exhaust setup on for me back when I didn't have a place to do it...Give him a call 314-921-5555..

I'm sure any shop with a small impact gun in the area would be able to do it for you though, it has to be a small gun though or it won't clear the radiator to get to the crank bolt...

You should check out http://www.stlmustangs.com ...We have a cool little forum like this over there with a bunch of good guys on it that like to talk about Mustangs...we have get togethers and stuff too from time to time as well as heading to the track a bunch...Oh yeah, and it's free to join...I'm a moderator over there so let me know if you need any help joining or whatever...
