Basically, they are three completely different transmissions (AOD and AODE are nearly the same).
The C4 is the old 3 speed trans used for many years, the AOD (4 speed) was used behind the 5.0 mustang engines (as well as some other vehicles), and the A4LD (4 speed) was used in the 2.3 Mustangs as well as some Explorers and such.
NONE of them will directly swap with each other, though there were some C4 backed 2.3's.
