First question is are you trying to save it? If NOT then just grab it and pull. But these moldings have a metal insert inside and it will bend and make it junk.
If you want to save it, I have a slick tool at work for this but the best household item I can tell you to use is a wide, sharp, putty knife. Pull the molding back a little bit and just use the putty knife to cut the tape while keeping tension on the molding. It will come right off.

The lower door moulding is attached to the door with double sided tape.

I used that exact method about 6 years ago that you’re suggestion above and I made sure that the lower door moulding stayed perfectly flat once it was removed until I reinstalled it because that is what I had read on many different sites.
A good friend of my said I needed to remove the thin metal strip but I kept reading that it had to stay on and not to let the moulding twist or sag otherwise the moulding junk.
I made 3 attempts at reinstalling the moulding with the proper double sided tape and with that thin metal strip but it wouldn’t stay attached to the door more than a week ever after many attempts at cleaning any possible residue that may be on the door or moulding.

I finally took my friends suggestion and removed that thin metal strip (which is probably the thickness of possibly 3 sheets of aluminum foil) by slowly heating up the thin metal strip and then taking a pair of pliers and pulling the thin metal strip off as I heated the area up in front of it.
Removed the that thin metal strip applied new double sided tape to the back of the moulding 6 yrs ago and the moulding is still stuck rock solid to the door today.

Method being suggested by gearheadboy and myself for removal of the lower door moulding

Fishing line works great as well, just stick into one end of the molding and saw it back and fourth while working it down, i actually used wire from my mig welder which works the same!

+1 on this idea.

I used 30# Berkley Fireline to get mine off......it worked pretty well.
