Well i finally figured out the source of my vibration haha, has anyone ever had a failure like this? When the crank broke, it also broke the timing chain, and i think there is bits of block floating around now, the balancer also went for one hell of a ride! i found it about 200 feet behind where i stopped, in the middle of the road haha. I assume since the chain broke, that the pistons where making sweet love to the valves, it was spinning at about 3500 when it broke. The motor is stock except for an edelbrock intake mani, im not sure if its ever been apart or if its original. anythoughts or ideas would be awsome, check out the video!

And heres the link to the video i made

Were you just cruising along when that happened, or were you at WOT?

was merging onto the freeway, stuck behind a truck in 3rd at about 3000rpm, pulled out to pass the truck and rolled into the throttle to WOT, then it went boom, i think it was at about 3500ish when it went, and it went fast! haha

WOW! That's catastrophic! Glad you were able to just pull over to the side without incident. Crazy!

Those 94-95 balancers are notorious for vibrations and failure, the rubber inbetween the two parts of the balancer gets cracked, rotten (like in your pics unfortunately) and causes it to wobble. Get a good aftermarket dampner when you build your next engine.

I had replaced that balancer about 6 months ago, but it was just an el cheapo unit.

Im not too sure what direction im going to head, right now i dont have the cash to do anything with it, im just going to park it for the winter time and deal with it in the spring, not like it really matters anymore, its snowing like a SOB right now, its time for sledding season baby!

While the rubber is cracked looking at the pics, it hasn't separated from the balancer and the outer ring is still in place, so I think something else caused the crank to break. A teardown of the engine will reveal all.

Actually I have seen that before. I put a King Cobra clutch in my second 94 GT right before I sold it to my brother in laws son. He was out street racing and rev'ed the motor up at the light and dropped the clutch. I don't know how he did it with street tires but the car must of hooked quite well because it snapped the crank a little farther back in the motor. The balancer stayed in place but because of the shift it actually cracked one of the pistons. We ended up replacing the motor. By the way Im cleaning out the garage I've got a used stock crank if you want it.

That balancer was toast, so there's probably no way to know if the outer ring had spun now. Most of the crank snout failures I've heard about have been on supercharged cars. Sounds like it's 351W time!

Dude sorry to hear about that but if you were looking to keep it stock you could get another bullet out of the bone yard and go through it over the winter and then in the spring it will be rested up from its winter sleep and ready to eat.... ;o)

The car had a pretty rank vibration in the motor since ive had it(3 years), that was the worst right around 4000RPM, it did get slightly better when i replaced the balancer. I knew it was going to come apart eventually, im actually impressed it lasted as long as it did, 3 solid summers of abuse is alright for a $4000 car in my books

Im not really sure how many miles it has on it, the car shows 150,000KM(im a canuck haha), i dont think that the motor is original though, i really dont have anyway to tell.

The only reason the balancer came off is because(and this is only a guess right now) when the crank broke, it broke at front journal, and had nothing supporting it from flopping around, so the balancer got slammed into the oil pan/timing cover at 3500+RPM. And thanks for the offer on the crank, but i think im going to try and get a complete motor out of a wrecked stang, or maybe an explorer.

Reminds me of that one Pinks where the Stang through its balencer on the last burn out but they said "Screw it! Rune em anyway!" It was a quick kaboom

Ya, this is the result of a Autozone harmonic dampner stripping out and off balancing the engine on my race car.
