Anyone ever had a SC blow up their motor?

Enjoy the blower! I've had mine for almost a month and love it. :) I have the v2-sq as well. My numbers are perfect. 352rwhp. I was driving around with 216rwhp stock so I enjoyed the boost (no pun intented) in the numbers.

I got the mongoose kit as it came with MUCH better pieces than the kits from superchargersonline.com. I looked there, but I wanted the 42lb injectors, 90mm MAF, plugs and for ****s the boost pipe.

As for tapping the pan, make sure you have the correct TAP and PUNCH. Go find a 3/8" punch! We didn't have one and it was an hour job to get the damn tap thread to catch. Also, make sure you get the right tap! They are NOT easy to find. I had to go to an industrial hardware/plumbing store to find mine. Freakin' rediculous.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend going and buying a boost pipe from Tim. Those things are so superior to the crap plastic Vortech gives you and yield ~18rwhp gains.

Enjoy!

I don't think I have ever seen a dyno sheet of a stock 2v putting down 440-460rwhp (keeping in mind most P.I. 2v 4.6's dyno from 220-230rwhp). People that do make that much usually have, upgraded tank/pumps, i/c, making about 15psi of boost or 10psi with cams, and aggressive timing.

Then you haven't been around long. There are plenty of them with the HP Stage 1 kit at 6-8psi putting down 450 on stock internals. On borrowed time? Absolutely. And as you should know, upgrades to the fuel tank, pumps, etc, are not modifications to the motor, which is what I was referring to (if you scroll back up and read my post, I specifically said motor.)

I don't see how HP being headquartered in California disproves my point about the majority of southerners not having Internet... But hey, good job representing the south!
I just want to know where you are getting that most southerners dont have the internet. Its not like we're sitting back in the civil war times.

Yes.I just blew mine over the weekend.Took out both rod and piston in #5 cylinder.Running 433/464 at the tires.A second or 2 after hitting 4th I felt it miss and plenty of white smoke out the exhaust.I no longer recommend going over the 400rwhp mark cause it gets spendy.I am now waiting for my VT shortblock and cams to get it put back together.

Ouch man, that sucks. Ive been telling people forever now that all I want is a 400-425 rwhp car as my daily, anything higher is expensive, breaks, and just useless on street tires. :)

sorry timmy.

****. I'll be hapy if I get 350 at the rear:D

I was gonna buy a kb 1.7 from a local guy, but I didn't want that much power. He said he was running 400, he then bumped it up to 420 & then
KAPOW!!! Blew his engine.

If that's all you want to make then you can pick up a saleen series 2 for about $2k and be done with it.It's a very reliable setup and wont break the bank.

 you can hit 350WHP with n2o on a stock block. Anything is possible guys, but that doesn't mean the motor will last. Bottom line is, if you don't have the cash to buy a new engine, don't supercharge/go turbo/or spray. Gotta pay to play...

As for the original Topic. Yes people with Blower's have lost an engine. It just seems to happen less. I believe due to the fact that when you put a SC on the car you HAVE to get it tuned. Which we all KNOW it is the tune that keeps the engine alive.

But I know of 2 people locally that have lost engines in the last 9 months due to SCer's. And 1 turbo car. :nonono:

The key to having a Supercharged application last is tuning and setup. Run the proper setup with a very good tune and you'll enjoy years of trouble free fun.
I have well over 700 stock motor GT's making anywhere from 340rwhp to 460rwhp and all are still running strong.

Cheap doesn't = good. Sometimes going cheap can cost you alot in the long run.
Have fun, you'll love your new found power.

Btw, I'm from the south and we just got that internet stuff a few minutes ago. I think I'm going to go try and learn me how to toon a car.:D

Hey Tim have you ever considered taking a little vacation and doing some tuning in other parts of the country?Like the northwest? It's real nice around these here parts in the spring time.:hail2: :hail2: :hail2:

Yes I have!!!

:notnice: I have a 01 mustang gt an I was running 12 lbs for like 2 weeks and it blow up because the dyno shop that Itook it to said it would be safe. I was think more along the line around 8-9 lbs but I didn't know it was my first time of haveing anything SC so .......... But know I have a NEW motor that was biuldt with all bottom end forged internals so I hope the best!!!!:nice:

Yeah, I've been researching the **** out of this for the last 2 weeks. I'm gonna keep it at 8 # just for safetys sake. It seems like the only people who blow their engine either push their engine limits, or use the vortech suicide tune. So far I haven't heard one person under 400 rwhp & under 9 psi blow their motor, so long as they get it tuned at a shop.
