Anyone ever weld converters into an O/R h-pipe?

just what the title says, i dont want to deal with swapping the stock pipe in for inspections or having the cops harrass me. I dont need to pass emissions, but id like to have the cats there to ease my mind. Anyone ever done this before?

You mean welding the shell around the pipes for looks only? Or you actually want to put converters in line with the pipes, to where they actually work?

i meant actually welding the converters in...although just welding the shell in is another idea. Anyone ever tried this?

no, but my buddy plans to. Just get a couple of catgo's for around $100, and take your car in and have a repitable shop cut and weld em in, no reason why they wouldn't be able to do this.

its been done many times, althugh my buddy got caught and got hit with a hefty fine. if you can afford the cats Any descent shop should be able to weld them into your o/r pipe

Just make sure that they are CARB approved. This may or may not hold you back from getting your emissions sticker.

For the all of 1hp loss with todays high flow converters, it isn't worth the trouble of welding in a fake shell into the exhaust.

Pretty tough to beat this price on a pair of high flow converters.....

Only thing is it does not have an air tube for the thermactor to be hooked up. Also when you get generic cats they are usually extremely restrictive.

How do you NOT have to pass in NY? Our emission laws are strict here but not as bad as california though.

Not having the air tube shouldn't be a problem. I passed without mine conected to the thermactors. But seriously, I would just buy or borrow an old stocker H with cats, pass the test, and then put my off road back on. That would be much easier than welding and ruining a perfectly good off road pipe.

I know that i could borrow a stock h for the test, but i would rather have cats (or the appearance of cats) all the time because i have heard horror stories of cops taking a mirror under the car to see if you have them. There is no emissions where i am (orange county, NY) but there is a fine for not having cats, which i would rather not have to deal with...
