Anyone ride BMX

to get in shape i decided to pick up the hobby. i gained like 20lbs this semester... i havent really got out side... so i started riding to get back in to shape. Anyone have any advice on things to learn for a new rider. As of right now im riding a haro mirra 540 . the damn thing weighs 39 lbs.... so i gotta get another bike... i found 2 broken backtrail x2 for $50 each one needs a tube the other needs a fork. Im probably going to pick them up tonight and a hoffman dekko frame i figure with all the parts i should be able to build something i like that is like 10lbs lighter then my other bike. i figured the best way to start was just riding trails by my house... getting small air on little humps... so i rode a total of 25 miles in the woods the other day... im sore as hell. and yesterday i was trying to learn manuals and footjam tail whips... but the bike is just heavy as hell.....

i ride BMX its been a while but i used to go almost every day.

i also ride a haro and i cant ride much else, the way haro makes there frames just fits perfect, so going from one frame to the next is going to be different.

also having a heavy bike is a great way to learn hard tricks because it takes more effort and controll to perform them.

EX, i had a haro nyquist R1 with a full grind plate and pegs for weight, i used it to learn 360's and once i took the pegs and the plate off its was about 50% easier to do the same tricks. (almost 50 pounds) as well as losing weight

also heavy bikes take alot more abuse

a good place to go would be a local skate park if they allow bikes, just be sure to go when its not crowded so you get more runs in and dont take up all the space.

I use to ride Dirt but every trail we setup the freaking city leveled.

I use to make ramps and do trick in the street but since I got my car.

Try doing table tops those are always fun. Ive got are rare bmx bike too

not in 17 years or so

once i earned some money it was all dirtbike...

all my bmx bikes wound up chopped for parts or someone stole it

funny story is i had a bike stolen once and as the years pass i met this kid..started hanging out

we walk up to my house and he says dude u live here?
i say ya ..he says sorry but i stole your bike

he actually replaced it with another

i thought i had a haro , but they were just stickers
as i flipped the bike over and it read redline! so i wasn that dissapointented

I used to ride 20" BMX. Now I stay with the mountain bike 2-3 times a week. I am in the proccess of restoring my Shwinn that I had as a kid. Buying alot of "old school" parts off Ebay. I hope to have in done this summer.
Back in the day, I could bunny hop a trash can or seven of my friends laying in the street (side by side), my brother was allways the last one. It was pretty much the nieghborhood kids tearing up the place. It was fun.

Just picked up the one back trail... its trash... The rims are all dented... fork is bent way back and the crank is choppy when peddaling but for $50 the tires/frame/gyro were probally worth it... i think im going to take my Mirra apart its gota huge dent in the frame anyway. And build it back on the backtrail frame... with the dirt tires on my mirra rims... Im picking up another backtrail this week for $50 this one just needs a tube... still has the chain guard on it... its some little kids bike... i also found a hoffman dekko frame for $20....

I thought the BMX bikes craze went the way of the doe doe 20-years-ago? I haven't seen them for sale anywhere even?

It did, my bike was from the late '70's early 80's. I'm old

You and me both. I even had one of those old heavy assed Motorcross looking pedal bikes with the chrome frame, front and rear shocks, plastic front and back fenders and fake gas tank that were so popular in the early 80's.

i ride bmx. im just not good at it. cant do any tricks me and a few buddies load up and ride all over town on sat mornings. alot of fun, good way to exercise and save gas to boot

i bought a aluminum next 20" bmx walmart special . yea , you get what you pay for like i figured. to stop the dreaded handlebar/stem movement i jb welded the bars to the stem then replaced the alan head bolts with hex heads and dipped the threads in loc tite . yea they dont move anymore

just a few weeks ago i bought a steel dyno (gt) bike. quality is definetly better. still cant do any tricks tho

i used to ride a little bmx years ago, its a pretty fun hobby. Me and my friend would just set up kickers in the driveway and see who could go bigger. lotta scars from those days haha. Once i got my first dirtbike its been motocross ever since, though.
