Does the handling feel uneven? Did you end up scraping pipes or aftermarket ctrl arms? Any of you running FOX tailpipes? I need new ones..but would they work with 315's? What about traction? Did you notice a difference? Good and bad..come on in. Thanks. :SNSign:

Tires:
What about Sunitomo HTR-Z's..any good?

What about NITTO Extreme Performance NT555R Drag Radials? Good, bad?

Would you be better off running..295's? 275's? Less weight?

Can I keep the 255's out front?

Comments come on in!

I haven't noticed any issues with handling. I run a magnaflow catback and my 315's dont rub at all, I did remove my quad shocks and had to massage the inner fender. I don't really have any serious mods so traction is never really any issue lol. I also run the sumitomo tires, you really cant beat them for the price. I don't know how well they would do with the kind of power your making though.

You can definitely keep your 255's. I run a 275 in the front with no problems.

i run 275s up front and 315s out back and the bitch feels like its on rails, i didnt have to remove any quad shocks or massage any fenders, of course my car isnt lowered that much, only about 1.5 inches with the eibach pro-kit. and i have a flowmaster catback and i have plenty of room between the pipes and tires. of course the tail pipes are only 2 1/4 inch IIRC

I have the eibach pro's like u chad. I HAD c springs on it but ended up scraping EVERYWHERE. So I had to raise it up a little. I personally think 275's are a better match...but not sure I want to spend the $$ since I already have 255's..

Keep comments coming..

p.s. Does anyone wish they would have gone smaller? Do they stick out tooo much?

well i was reading around on here before i purchased my wheels and tires and some complaints people had with the 275s up front is that you feel every little dip or curve in the road. like the car will follow every dip. and also if you drive your car in the rain at all, there were issues of hydroplaning. these people with these issues said they wished they went with 255s up front instead.

but if you dont drive your car in the rain, i agree with you that the 275s are a better match. but just run your 255s til you need new ones and then get the 275s,

Yea, I guess I will do that. I have seen some rims that stick out too far.. Does anyone recommend a particular offset for deep dish?

i got my rims from latermodelrestoration.com and they have the correct offset for the mustangs. my wheels/tires match the lip of the front and rear fenders perfectly. i dont think they stick out at all IIRC

I had 275's in front with 315's in rear. The rear I have no quads, UPR upper and lower control arms, bullitt springs and shocks, flowmaster american thunder 2.5 tailpipes. I had to roll the back edge of the inner wheelwell. I also have 17x11 rear rims not the 10.5 ones you see most of the time.

I had some 265 mich pilots put on the front to see about bringing the tires in a tad as I have a 9.5 wide front rim no the 9in wide rims. With the 275's I did feel every crown in the road (horrible roads in the St. Louis area btw...IIRC ranked in the bottom 10 of the nation) but the front sysp was stock/factory/original...I just put on 03 arms, new bullitt struts and bushings and an align before putting it up for the winter. I hope it has helped but will find out in the spring.

I was running yokohama AVIS sport tires in the rear but picked up some BFG DR...one thing from the yokohama tires the stiff sidewall was not the best for launching. I could run the tires down to 8psi and the tire looked like it was fine no sag/droop that same tire is now a run flat not sure if mine was prior to being rated as such or what but one spring there was 5psi and I would not have known if I did not check. The yokohama had good wet traction.

I run 315 BFG Drag Radial's out back. Probably the widest 315 I've ever seen except maybe the M/T's. I used to run tailpipes from my Flowmaster catback, but I went to a panhard bar so I have to run dumps (I might get pipes in there, but it will be tight and they'll have to be custom built.).

I run 275's up front now, I used to run 255's until I wore them out. I autocross the car and have no handling "quirks" that are unexpected. The only thing you could call a quirk is the fact that the DR's are a bit unforgiving, they hold hard in corners but give little warning before a slide as any other soft compound tire would, and they tend to create a bit of "push" under power as long as they hook.. the tires alone aren't to blame, as it tends to lift the front a bit under the torque of the 347 and unload the suspension, and at the same time the tires simply push the car whatever direction it's facing. Simple hrottle modulation and/or occasionally a bit of throttle induced oversteer helps depending on the situation

315 Sumitomo's out back with 275 Kumho's out front. No weird handling, though I also had to massage the rear fenderwells when the tires rubbed a bit. I also get a bit of rubbing if I head up a steep driveway at an angle, which tilts the axle a decent amount. No quad shocks either, I have aftermarket control arms tho.

Traction was a bit better, but I still slide in the rain about as much as I did with 275's.

I did the 275s and 315s. Stock suspension w/american thunder exhaust. No modifications necessary. I think the handling suffered. I'm very surprised that some people don't notice a difference in steering and how the vehicle tracks over "rough" roads.

The HTR-Zs... you get what you pay for. I would have done something different if I were to do it again, but I don't think they are bad for the money.

I have some steeper angles to go over so I may go 295's in back..

What do u mean handling suffered? Just the tracking issue? What dont u like about the HTR-z's?

I run 275 up front and 315 out back on 03/04 Cobra rims, 9" front, 10.5" rear.

I ran the 315 Sumitomo's for about a week and got rid of them, did not care for the lack of traction at cruising speed. Went with 315 Nitto Drag radials (which are noticably more narrow than the Sumitomo) and was very happy with them for a street tire. Drove about 250 miles a week, got good longevity out of them, around 10k miles. I have a lot of fun with the car, I bet 15k would be doable for a more laid back driver.

To me, the wheel was noticeably heavier and the tracking issue pissed me off. I understand that this goes hand in hand with larger tires but that doesn't make me feel better.

The HTR-Zs were purchased purely for economics. I understand that most drag radials suck in the rain, but the HTR-Zs weren't too great either so I would have babied the car either way. My mustang was a mid 13 second car which is a different animal then yours so take that into consideration. Aesthetically the tread pattern wasn't so hot.

For what it's worth I had "tracking issues" as well until I had a quality alignment done. I even sat in the car while they aligned it to get everything setup properly.

I've always had tracking issues in all 3 Mustangs I've owned. I don't know if it is just the suspension design or what, but I've just accepted that it will always be there. I do know that tire tread pattern does affect tracking quite a bit. I used to run Kumho Ecsta Supra tires, which had a large water groove down the middle. That groove would snag every crack in the road and try to take the wheel with it. When I changed to a different tire, that tendency went away.

I wonder if bumpsteer has something to do with these tracking issues? I don't know of a shop that will adjust bumpsteer when doing an alignment.

Good to note about the tracking. That would drive me insane and just annoy the hell out of me. My friend had this in his '03 cobra with 275's up front. Yea the water groove is an important note...and the heaviness. I dont want that crap. You know..old/stock suspension prolly exacerbates it.

Wes..you've got me real curious on this one..cruising speed spin out? What do you have under the hood? I thought 315's would grip real good haha! I haven't driven my car enough to know it well yet. But I know I can smoke em easy. I really am starting to think the suspension makes a bigger difference than the tire.. I liquified them a couple of times with the 306 AND 302 but now I have UCA's and LCA's, bigger rear sway, tq boxes welded with plates, gas shocks, SFC's, welded axles, and it will hook too unless I get nuts. Its not sloppy even with the z rated 255's. With the old suspension, it was all over the place, not like now.

Note: With Sumitomos i could not hook...i had to take my 315's off the car and slap on my stock tri bars and hooked better at the track....

I like my 315's however im looking in to toyo 888s chris had the nitto 555r's (315's)and liked them however they didnt last long... i think i run 245's up front on my car... im not 100% sure... i bought toyo proxies and they are awesome@! i have the flowmaster tails and they fit fine... im going to switch to the fox tails i like how they flow with our rear bumper.

Examples of fox tails:

I'm running a MagnaFlow kit and Nitto NT555 315s. The Nittos aren't the best for straight line traction, I was actually more impressed with my BFG g-Force sports that were 275s. There's no rubbing, even with the quad shocks.
