im lookin at a street bike for a toy. getting a beginner type bike for now, sv650s.

before i look into it anymore, does anyone around this rainy state have one? how often do you ride? im not a real aggressive rider, and its my first bike. so from what ive read this is a good beginner bike.

i figure i can ride it to work mostly during the week/summer time and go on some cruises around here. it wont cost me too much, will pay for itself in gas savings over my truck.

i dont know anyone with a crotch rocket, so im looking for some input.

Last year I bought a low mile always garaged bike from the 80's; 1983 Suzuki GS750ES. I hadn't ridden a bike in 20 years and this one is a lot of fun. And, the seat position is not too radical - comfortable yet sporty enough for an old guy like me.

i too have a sport bike from the 80s mine is a yamaha FZ700 i guess on the rare side but didnt know that till after i bought it.View attachment 389973

I've ridden. I had an F4i and it was more bike than I ever needed. Here is what will happen:

You will be very fearful of the bike for a while (go get your endorsement and take the course at the local college) until you learn of it's abilities. Then, your balls will get quite large quite quick and you'll find out the bike is very capable of great fun things. Then... you WILL put it down at some point. This is just the way it goes. The saying goes, you have either gone down once in your life, or you will at some point (kinda synical, but it's true). For the guys who haven't dropped or layed down their bikes, it is because they haven't put enough miles on them. But, here is the more interesting part, you become the invisible man on the freeway and you will start to notice the amount of people who die on these things in the news more often.

The gas mileage rocked! But, being on something that would run high 10's and was invisible to the world just lost it's appeal.

The SV650 is an awesome starter bike, but by no means is underpowered or underrated for handling.

The SV650 is an awesome starter bike. It will not overpower you after a couple times riding it, and it is on par or better than the "super" bikes for everyday handling. You will not need a big bike unless you want the sex appeal or plan on track time...but there again, the SV is a potent track bike with a little $ thrown at it...

ive had my bike for 3 years put about 5000 on it the bike has been on its side twice. both times it wasnt moving. i feel its all in how you ride the bike if you will go down or not. if its a daily you will go down. if you ever stop repecting the bike no matter how many cc or what type of bike you will go down. if you get carrless or tired really easy then i would not recomend getting a bike cuz you might get hurt. bike s crsh a lot but if you look up haw many 5.0 crashed in 87 and 88 and 89 you'll see that more then half of the brand new ones every year crashed. most of the crashes were people not knowning about the car. a stock 5.0 handles well it just not stable doing it. hey bikes handle well there just not stable doing it.

My first bike was an 86 GSXR750 got bored with it after a while of riding ended up selling it so I could buy another bike well 9 years later I bought an 05 Yamaha R6 and I am very impressed with the bike but am selling the bike since I have to many toys and need to finish the car the bike is low miles only 2940 miles on it since 2005

thanks for the input. ive heard the saying about laying bikes down before, one of the reasons i havent bought one sooner i think.

it would be (planning of course) ridden as a dd most the time to work. which is about 6 miles each way.

i know myself, and id definately be on the tamer side of riding. i dont think i fatigue very easy, so im getting an easier state of mind about buying this bike i think.

well i went bike shopping today, decided against the sv650s or whatever it is.

went to yamaha and looked online at honda bikes. kinda deciding between these two now:

yamaha yfz-r6s
cbr600 f4i

what do you think? im approved for either bike, just a matter of saying yes. which ive got until tuesday to decide now..

Mind if I ask why you decided against the SV? The R6 and CBR600 are both a huge amount of bike for a 1st time rider. I would suggest searching out someone that would let you ride theirs if at all possible. I bet these bikes will pucker you up a bit...

Either way, good luck and keep your eyes peeled for the SUV's and beemer/benz drivers

its an r6s for the record, a bit less power then the standard r6 from what ive read. which has been pretty limited, however.

i decided against it for the looks factor and also the insurance is nearly identical on the new r6s. other then that, not alot was against it. im sure its a great bike too, i just preferred the looks of the r6 style alot more.

If you are wanting an R6 I am selling my 05 it only has 2940 miles on it it is red the bike is stock never riden in the rain never been down and kept in the garage I had the first check up done at the beaverton dealership. it is just like new without the price of a new one

the f4i is more comfortable than the r6.

The r6 is said to be the least streetable out of all of the 600 sport bikes. Has ALOT of top end power but no bottom end. The suspension is set up more for the track.

I have a ninja 650R, that im selling. I'm going to buy a used suzuki TL1000R Vtwin.

ok, thats some good info then.

i havent gone to a honda dealership yet to check out the cbr's in person. i will do that on tuesday then.

i had a real good deal worked out on the r6s at my local dealer. just over 8500 otd for a brand new one. i definately dont want to buy something i wont like though.

you still happy with your bike in general andy? well you must be if your getting another lol.

Ya I love takin the bike out on the weekends or riding it to work or whatever. Its a ton of fun. Thats why I want to get another one, kind of getting bored with this one. It has been great for the 11k miles i've put on it in less than a year. But I think its time to upgrade lol

looks like honda doesnt make an 07 cbr f4i, so its only the cbr 600.

not sure i want that much bike, so im confused on where to go. if the r6 isint street friendly, then its another step backwards yet.

almost makes me want to just go buy a new gixxer 600.

LOVED my cbr600 for sure, wasnt an f4i, was only an f3 but I rode an f4i and loved it. I have also ridden an R6 and would say that its going to be all about preference, period. Both are alot of bike and I know that Phil has taken good care of his (wicked93) r6... I honestly dont think you can lose either way.

what were the differences in the bikes for you? was one more comfortable, easier to ride around town, ect?

I would check out Lynnwood Cycle Barn or RMC in Renton. I am sure they still have some 06's still on the floor. But the F4i is very comfortable, but in the same respect, it comes with fully adjustable suspension and more power than you will ever need.
