Are Underdrive Pullies worth the 200 bucks?

I have heard mixed reviews about underdrive pullies from local shops in my area. Does anyone have them installed on a new GT that could give me a little feedback on their experience with them so far? Is it true that some of your accessories like your AC will not cool as properly with the UD pullies installed? I would appreciate your feedback.

Pulleys

All the posts I read about UDP's on 05-06 'Stangs seem to be positive. I had them on a '97 & '00 GT and I liked them, never had any problems. My son has them on his '04 GT and likes them. I am planning to put them on my '06 when the warranty period is about over. I would only go with Steeda, better than the "piggyback" varity. Steeda, "Strong like Bull". No A/C or charging problems. UDP's also help your accessories last longer because they (the accessories) don't turn as fast. Just my opinion.

I had the Steeda UD pulleys before I went with the blower. Had no problems. You can install them, but the power increase is not much at all. You probably won't feel it. They are best to be used in combination with other parts as a "power package". For example, you could install a CAI, tune, gears, pulleys, exhaust mods as a package where the combination of the mods will give an overall nice power gain. It definitely wouldn't hurt to do pulleys now and add the other parts a piece at a time. It is nice to do everything at once so you will feel your money spent rather than a little gain here and a little gain there.

UD pulleys are worth less than 10 hp on average. Alone, they won't be a big gain. Combined with other mods the hp adds up to about 30hp on an N/A 3-valve 4.6 engine without any head work.

I had a 92 Mustang 5.0 with UDPs. The car always ran hot and the belt came off one day and trashed my alternator. I changed back to the stock pullies.

I know that was a different car with a different engine but I'm a leary. I don't like the fact that the water pump pulley on the Steeda UDPs has no lip. It looks like the belt could just slip right off, just like on my old 5.0. Why didn't they put a lip on there to hold the belt in place? So no one has had any problems with overheating? No belt slippage?

Just had them (Steeda) installed on my 05 GT yesterday, and what a difference!!! The car pulls 3x as hard, and the exhaust is 2x as loud, deeper and more aggressive sounding.

I have a cai (no tune) and Ford Racing axel back's and that's it. You can expect a solid 10 rwhp. I had the ASP brand on my 94 GT manual and I had it dyno'd after the install, and it was good for 12 rwhp. I never had any trouble with the car running hot or belt problems.

As soon as we get some cooler weather here I'll head over to Rev Extreme for some dyno pulls to see exactly what I have at the rear wheels.

This one of the best mods you can do.

Yes, that's whats great about it. You use your stock belt, and just replace the crank an water pump pully. It's simple and it works. :nice:

The folks at Brenspeed.com only use the Steeda udp's on there GT's and made a solid 10 rwhp.

That's where I bought mine. $249.00 to my front door. No S/H or tax. I live in Fla, and the Steeda shop is about 3 hours south of me, but I would have to pay tax and $10-15 for UPS. My 94 GT 5.0 had 285/311 at the rear wheels so I can honestly say my 05 GT has more hp now than with my 94. The udp's make a noticeable difference in how my GT runs. I plan to get on a dyno jet as soon as the weather gets cooler to see what the actual hp is.

I've had underdrives on my 06 for over 10,000 miles... everything still works perfect. I love underdrives. They were one of the first things I put on my 87 5.0, and they were one of the first things I put on my 06. Great bang for the buck, with no downfalls on these cars.
