Auto Meter Gauges

Since I'm on my way to upgrading the entire, I figure this is the best time to also do gauges. So, I'm looking to get Auto Meter Ultralight. However, I'm completely clueless on gauges. Do I go with mechanical or electrical? School me in the way of gauges.

depends...what are you looking at for gauges?

i wouldnt want a mechanical oil pressure gauge inside my car. what if it leaked?

are you looking at like a florida50 setup or individual gauges/pods?

i went with electrical for both. i dont think i'd feel comfortable with oil running into my car upto gauge. how much more accurate could it possibly be?

A mechanical oil gauge has a small tube with oil in it that runs to the gauge. An electric works off of a sending unit type of deal and sends a signal through a wire. A mechanical gauge is illegal at the track if you run it to the interior. If you have the cash, get electric everything.

AFAIK electric gauges are pretty responsive, i havent used any myself, i run mechanical gauges and i like how responsive they are. the only mech gauge that really sends anything into your car is the oil, the mech water gauge is just a copper tube.

the mech gauges are easier to hook up and only elec wiring is the lights if you use them.

The oil dosent make it all the way to the gauge anyhow. It will push so far and then press on the air in the tube.

Only way it would make it to the gauge is if the tube broke,

That statement is only as good as the tech inpsector.

True..i have a mechanical under my dash and it's only been noticed once and the guy just told me not to let him see it again.

I wont be using my own money on this one.. So Electric Gauges it is.

mechanical guages are full 270 degree sweep, electricals are 90 degree sweeps. mechanical gauges are also more accurate.

you do run a small nylon (or braided) tube into the car for the oil pressure. and a small alcohol filled tube you dont want to kink for the water temp.

having said that, i have mechanicals in my mc machine plate.

I went electric. More accurate than the stockers but not as accurate as the mechanical.

mechanical guages are full 270 degree sweep, electricals are 90 degree sweeps. mechanical gauges are also more accurate.

I believe you have the option of 90 or full sweep...it depends on the brand. My buddy bought all his gauges and wanted full sweep for all of them (they're all electric) and accidentally got a 90 degree gas gauge so it kinda doesn't match, but the others are full sweep and are electric.
