Tonight's beer of choice, Victory's Storm King Imperial Stoudt. One of my favorite imperials.

Trying a new one my helper bought

I haven’t been enjoying IPA’s for awhile, but this is pretty tasty. Four out of five thumbs up

New Belgium certainly isn't a big player in the IPA world, but this is by far the best one they've put out. Really, it's hard to have a bad mosaic IPA.

I finally got around to picking up one of these samplers this evening. I just opened up a Maple Red and I like it. It's like a red should be, I suppose.

Looking forward to trying the rest...might have another later this evening.

I'm making my way through this. So far I've like what I've tried...at this point, I've had at least one each of the beers that are not SA's "standard" offerings for fall. So after the Maple Red, I had a 20 Pounds of Pumpkin and earlier this evening I had the Honey Rye Pale Ale. Right now I'm sipping on the Black Lager...not too bad, I'm definitely picking up on the hint of cocoa.

I'm kind of stuck in my Tin Cup whiskey at the moment. You see, if you look at it properly, I'm on a diet. Less calories in the whiskey.

I call it Ten Pounds with a Tin Cup diet.

Here we have Cellar Door, a dry-hopped wheat ale with hints of sage (as it's advertised) from Stillwater Artisanal brewery.

It's okay. I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but I want to say I was hoping for more out of this beer...especially for $9 per 4-pack. I'm certainly picking up on the hopiness but not really detecting any sage. I don't know how I feel about sage in a beer anyway though. The cloudiness is decent for a wheat.

I can get through these four, but I'm not so sure I'd be inclined to get it again...especially given the price.

I'm sorry, I simply cannot accept that drinking whiskey instead of beer will lead to steady weight loss. I believe a long-term study is needed, probably 10-15 years, minimum. You should apply for a few-million-dollar gov't grant to cover the expenses and record-keeping. You'll also need to verify that different types of whisky yield the same or similar results, so you'll probably need a sizable sample population. Just let us know here when the grant money is approved, I'm sure we can round up a good sample size to work with just within this forum.

In the beer news for today... Sam Adams Tastes of Fall Collection is no longer available at my local Krogers.
Fortunately, Octoberfest is still available, and even better, Winter Lager is now out on the shelves!

WINTER is on the shelves? Holy cow. Normally I don't see that till mid-November around here.

Love that Winter Lager. Can't wait till it shows up here. That's maybe the best thing of that cold, dreary season.

I'm a big fan of Stillwater. Cellar Door is still one of my favorite saisons. There are a couple of reasons for the high price, which has always been a deterrent for me as well. First, he's a "gypsy brewery" meaning that he doesn't own a brewery. Therefore he has to pay another brewery to brew or rent time and space to brew himself. Contract brewed beers are almost always higher on average. Secondly, he use Twelve Percent Imports to handle his beer. That means that in most markets, his beer is going through two distributors (Twelve Percent nationally and your local in state distributor). That of course, adds an extra mark up on the beer.

Cheers!

The expensive brews for me are the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and Stout. $11 for 4, so I don't get them very often, but I sure do like them!

Interesting! Was not aware such a practice existed.

I saw another beer in the case that was going for $14.99 for a 4-pack. It was a wheat as well and I thought about it, but the price more or less turned me off. I'll be damned if I can remember the name of it now though.

Barrel Aged beers can be a wallet breaker for sure! It can get ridiculous.

I honestly don't know why I chose this one tonight...

Definitely something different, sort of. I like ambers too but the brewery choice...beats me. I know nothing of them, never heard of them; they're not even from this region. But what the hell, right?

It's a pretty good beer, I must say. Fairly smooth, good flavor. I'd say I like it and I think I'd buy it again. Good choice, me.

Update from Krogers: SA Octoberfest is gone, but now the Holiday Sampler is out!
Winter Lager still holding strong.
