Best Fox Suspension! Your opinion matters!

I want to make this the all out mustang suspenion thread. I hear alot of people talk about suspenion do's and dont's, that this k-member is better than that one, and so on. So lets here it. Lets figure out what is the best control arms,k-member, shocks, and just about everything suspension for the fox body mustang. Whats the best part/brand for the money. I know maximum motorsports stuff is pretty popular..but im sure there is someone out there that just doesnt like them.

I'm very partial to two systems but will also state my caveats to those systems...

Maximum Motorsports seems to have the best "out of the box" kits available anywhere.

They're very expensive and you must read the instructions carefully because their 3 Link system requires some fairly extensive modifications to the exhaust. I've heard said on several occations that same quality mixing and matching from other companies can be had for allot less money and give you equal results.

Steeda 5 Link 2 systems are also pretty pricey and also require some exhaust modifications. The quality of their upper and lower control arms seems awesome... Their weight jacking lowers are works of art and VERY light weight. I was shocked when I get to lay hands on these things and see what they're like in person. You can get any number of bearing types for these control arms. More options than even MM has for theirs. I questions the wisdom of installing spherical bushings in control arms when running a pan-hard bar though. Seems like a duplication of effort giving little more than an added expense.

Were I a suspension guru of some sort, I would likely piece my own system together. As it is... I'll likely be slowly installing parts from the MM kit(s). What I like most about the MM offerings is that they are modular. You can add all or some at any given time to improve upon what you've got as opposed to having to dump two to three grand at one shot.

My car has D&D front suspension on it now. I have the full MM front going in when the new motor is done.

K Member
A arms
Coil overs
Bilsteins all around
sway bar and relcation kit.

Forgive me, my digital camera sucks balls, but this is what I have. MM lower control arms (the best IMO), Griggs Panhard bar, Bilsteins, Eibach springs, boxed front control arms with poly bushings. My car handles like not a mustang, it that makes sense.

those are great for strip.. but not so great for street.. or those into corner carving.. much like myself..

what does a panhard bar do to your handling? is it more street use or more strip? i like my suspension right now but am looking to tighten it up a little more i plan on getting a AJE k-Memeber and A-Arms (both tubular) and coliovers all around. i also plan on getting MM full length subframes and strut tower brace and k member brace. I have herd alot about panhard bars but never under stood how they work? could someone please explain. also sorry to hijack your tread but my suspension is amazing and i figured you might want to look into some of the stuff i have.

A panhard bar locates the axle, preventing it from walking side to side and possibly steering your car and/or making the rear end unpredictable. The upper control arms take on this task from the factory, but they do an awefully crappy job at it!

I love how my car handles with my current rear suspension setup.

If i was a millionaire, i would have a full Maximum motorsports suspension under my car...unfortunately their complete kit will run about $4000-5000

I've heard good things about UPR's front suspension kit. It's $700 complete for k-member, a-arms and coil over setup? Anyone have any info on this setup?

We should also establish which type of driving your suspension choices are intended for. Drag racers probably don't need to worry about roll center, rear end bind, rear steering and so on. Where as a straight line setup focuses on weight transfer and applying all of the power.

I won't ever hit the track and love corners so here is what my car will end up with:
Front
1) H&R springs
2) Bump Steer kit
3) Steeda C/C plates
4) SN95 spindles
5) SN95 shocks / struts (brand TBD still)
6) New A-arms with SN ball joints and new rubber bushings
Rear
1) H&R springs
2) MM standard Lowers
3) FRPP uppers
4) MM PHB

For a K, i would use the MM, the Kenny brown, griggs or aje.
My preference of them is the aje, it's strong (and affordable), and you can get upper spring perches to use you coil springs and control arms.
Definetely not UPR, so many horror stories.

MM is expensive but their parts and customer service is top notch. Their kits are a selection of matched parts that are chosen to work well together.

I just installed their complete coil-over kit that included parts for the front and rear. The kit included their CC plates. I also installed their strut tower brace. Next up is upper and lower control arms. The lowers from MM and OEM uppers.

If I had the dough I would have bought the Maximum Grip Box and been done with it. But, that kit is way more than I paid for the car.

There are many suspension makers out there so do your research. Stay away from Granatelli.

For straight line stick the South Side lift bars are good...but they are murder on your torque boxs...and they squeek. hehe Im happy with them and use them on the street all the time. I really need to get some battle boxs welded in though before the SS's rip the rearend out of my car

wilwoodfiveo...dont worry about the hijack. Your question is suspension related and thats exactly what this thread is about.

I spent 2k for bilsteins all around, MM front coil overs. MM K member, MM A arms, and MM sway bar.

I cant wait to remove the D&D crap on the car now.

This will go well with my MM panhard bar, MM c/c plates, MM full length subs, and Pro3i LCA's.

After summer, I will do the rear coil overs and HD torque arm

When you get to the Torque Arm, take LOTS of install pics and post. I'd like to see step by step all the stuff that's involved with the exhaust modification to make it all "happy".

ive got them on my car and they really make the car hook. instead of the rear squatting when you launch the rear lifts and the tires are pushed down. its a wierd feeling
