Hey guys just wondering your opinion on cams for an NA Motor with these bolt ons and mods:
(JLT cai, Accufab 75mm TB/Plenum, Bassani X-Pipe, Borla Catback, 4.10's, sct cal tuned)

Its just your basic bolt on + gears, but i have been browing through the forum and I can't find a definite answer. I want to go with Vt Stage 1, b/c i def dont have the money to finance a blower/turbo. I have heard 15-20 hp gain, and i would be happy with that. But does anyone have any suggestions on if I should change anything along with the CAMS, like the valve springs?

Im not very mechanically savy, and im kinda on a budget, so i like to plan out my modifications a good time before i do them. Again i have looked on all the forums, and ive seen that guys have used Blower Cams on Stock Motors, knowing that they are getting them in the future, but way in the future 2 + years. They have said they have gained much more than going stock N/A Cams, any experience or knowledge to back this up.

And if i do go Blower Cams, will it do anything negative to the motor.

if you get VT stage I or xe262ah's springs arn't needed but recommended. I'm going to stock spring route. As for price find a used set like i did from stangnetter Hotmustang. But if you KNOW you're going to go FI, then blower cams on a N/A car will be fine for now. You wont see the best increases across the rpm board perhaps and they might be peaky and at a higher rpm than stage I's (im assuming this correct me if im wrong guys) but you wont have to open up the vavle-train again once you go FI and when you retune w/ the blower cams you'll really notice the difference. I don't think it'll harm your engine at all, it's just a different grind, but w/ blower cams springs will be recommended.

Scott@VTengines recommended Crower stage 2 blower cams for my N/a setup. He stated that they make just as good if not better power than there Stage 2 N/a cams. Ive been happy with these cams as I made 316rwhp and 309rwtq with them. This was on a 101 degree shop temp as well. here is a pic of my dynosheet

I've seen 30rwhp gains with those Crower st 2 blower cams on NA applications...
I think TGJ also runs them in his NA setup.

Ok cool, yea what range of rpms do the crower stage II really kick in though. I dont want to lose low end power.

That is correct, I do run these cams in my N/A 2V car.

My car is an auto with a 4200 - 4500 RPM Stall TC and 4.30's, so it is difficult to say what the low end power would be like without those other mods. I would venture a guess and say you would feel the car kick in around 3000 RPM and pull to Redline with these cams otherwise.

Personally, I would not pay attention to what the cam is said to be good for, pay more attention to the specs. of the cams instead. I say this because if you look at the spec's, you will find that one companies blower cams are similarly spec'd to another companies N/A cams and vice versa. An example, the Comp series are considered to be very good N/A cams and decent SC cams. A good cam that works in either application. The Crower Stg 2 Blower cam is almost identical to the Comp 270's with the exception of having more lift.

From what I have learned over the last few years, the better N/A cams favour the intake side and have a tighter LSA. It is very hard to find a cam spec'd like I just mentioned. The better SC cams favour the exhaust side and have a close to stock LSA. Cams that fit in between and do well N/A or FI are cams like the Comp Cam line as well as the Crower Stg 2 SC cam.

They look to make power up top. See his peak torque is @4600RPMs, but with my VT stg 1s I made peak torque around 4K if I recal correctly. I made 292RWHP/308RWTQ SAE.

the above graph is in STD, that bumps power by 10RWHP in every comparison I have seen. Still great #s though, but I think you will need his setup to see that sortof power out of those cams. Any blower cam will hurt while N/A vs N/A cams though. VT stg1s seem to work pretty well with blowers...stangman on here put down 440RWHP @ 8PSI and 14*s timing NON intercooled. So yea they work pretty good if you find a good deal on them...otherwise go straight for blower cams if buying new.

My cars Tq curve was literally flat at the peak from 3800 - 4800 RPM with the Crower Stg 2 Cams. My N/A car found the limits of airflow of the plastic PI intake. I hope to have that rectified at some point. I have a plan in place.

Whose N/A cam compared to whose S/C cam? Like I said, Company A's N/A cam is similar spec'd to Company B's SC cam and vise versa. I am not mentioning whose is what, I do know that Scott @ VT has recommended Crower Stg 2 SC cams over his Stg 2 N/A cam in a couple of N/A applications. Kind of defeats the purpose of labelling cams as N/A or SC specific doesn't it?

I agree that it generally isnt a LARGE difference between blower cams and small N/A cams. Looking at the comp 262s, they are VERY simular to other companys turbo and blower cams.

Vt stg 1s are very close as well but have a 110LSA, and would be suited to lower boost pressures. But as you go up, more and more is going to go straight of the exhaust, and thats when the looser, if you will, LSA is really going to shine. But thats also dependant on durration of the cam.

As far as turbo cams go, IMO the VT stg 1s work well in the boost aspect since im running lower pressures...BUT the overlap will actually hurt spoolup via exhaust velocity and volume...since the turbo provides alot of back pressure its just allowing some exhaust to stay behind and actually restricting fresh air from coming in and contaminating the charge.
Thats why im switching to some MMR turbo cams...well that and because I got a very good deal on them Ill be doing before and after dyno runs at the same boost just to see if my theory is right LOL.

i ran the vt 3 blower cams NA for a while, noticed i lost low end, but they were great up top. Install was not too bad, but you have to be careful to degree them and everything
