blower cams on n/a

I think im going to just go with some blower cams. I dont plan on having them to mid late spring. I'm just starting some research now. Also If i do blow my car, it wont be till around winter time, so i can pull my car into a garage and make it winter project. What in everyone opinions is the best blower cam? Ive heard either vt or comp based on what you guys have said in this thread.

If you are going to truly supercharge your car in the near future, go with blower cams. If you don't see yourself doing a supercharger for a while, do N/A cams. There will be a significant difference in power/performance if you put blower cams on a N/A motor.

Cams prob wont happen till mid mayish time, and supercharger prob sometime after even the track season closes once it goes away for winter. So say 6-7 months on blower cams in a n/a motor worth it?? or should i just spring for some stg 2 n/a cams and switch them out when it comes time for blower?

Totally untrue. All camshafts provide a certain amount of valve overlap in order to help evacuate the cylinder, they have to.

Blower cams tend to have a little less lift and duration on the intake, and a slightly larger exhaust duration and lift split as compared to a similar N/A cam.

For example the Comp XE 270 AH cam - 234/238 @ .050", .550"/.550", 113 LSA has a total valve overlap of approximately 44°.

The VT Stage 2 blower cam - 220/230 @.050", .530/.570", 112+4 LSA has a total valve overlap of approximately 27°.

The VT Stage 1 N/A cam - 224/226 @.050", .540/.550", 110 LSA has a total valve overlap of approximately 39°

No such thing as a camshaft with only 5° overlap unless it's in a lawnmower:D, hotmustang331 knows better :D.

Well, someone gave me a forumula on how to determine actual valve overlap a long time ago and I unfortunatly never really looked into it and took that persons word for it that it was accurate.....not like me, but what can I say  .

And oddly enough I thought that was DARN low for a N/A grind....but like I said, I took the persons word for it :nonono:

But I knew that you would chime in if something wasnt quite right :nice:

No, not worth it at all.....go straight for the blower cams. If you were planning on YEARS, then ok....but 6-7 months goes buy in a hurry. Believe me I know (re:how long my cars been down) :rlaugh:

That person's first name wasn't Bill was it? LOL.... I couldn't resist.

The easy way if you don't have the VE events (valve timing) of the particular cams is to take the advertised duration of both the intake and exhaust and add them together. Then divide that sum by 4. Then subtract the LSA. Then multiply by 2.

270+274=544
544/4=136
136-114=22
22*2=44

hmm wow i learned something new today yay I guess you really do learn something new everyday. Also thanks everyone for the input guess ill be doing some blower cams, and when i do ill be sure to post some after results after a dyno tune session with jpc racing.
