I was talking about LQ4's and LQ9's, i agree that displacement has something to do with the torque, and i think that its a completely relevant point considering that we are talking about 351ci motors, only 13ci less. Most of the SBF crowd is scared to use a 245cc intake port on a 400+ inch motor. LS motors come from the factory with larger cylinder heads, and short runners, and make plenty of power/tq to move a 8500lb truck that can tow another 10,000 lbs. If these big headed motors didnt make torque, this wouldnt be possible

But, but, but the Corral told me that I don't need anything bigger than AFR 185s and a 75mm TB unless I was building a racecar... They must be right, because there are so many of them...

LOL! JUST yesterday at 6:45 PM I tightened the last bolt on my T5 rebuild project and drove the car for the first time in months. I don't wanna see the inside of a T5 again any time soon, so I'm a little uncomfortable with the idea of 500 ft-lbs, haha! I mean I WOULD love to have a 6.7 liter beater, but at the same time I KNOW my transmission is not up to the task.

But maybe I fall into a used TKO or a T56 this summer...? I guess we'll see where life takes me.

BTW, I dropped the block off at the machine shop to get cleaned and mag'ed Saturday, so I should know if this engine is a go or not here in the next day or so.

Start looking for a tremec for 1000-1300, then once you buy that, you could sell the t-5 for about 5-700, cause your motor now makes enough power to make the t-5 say uncle.

Oh yea, and it pretty much already has. It had an unexplainable gear whine in 1st and 2nd, so I pulled it apart, inspected it, put new bearings and a few other small parts in it, and now it's back together and still has a whine, haha. I dunno if it's just as simple as gear wear or if the input shaft is bent or what. None of the teeth were visibly damaged.

Anyway, I'm just going to drive it until it breaks, or until I find a cheap and better alternative (TKO or T56).

Yup. Did the exact same to my T5 last fall (installed the Astro Performance deluxe rebuild kit) and sure enough....the whine was still there when I got it back together. Spoke with them ahead of time and he told me the kit might cure the noise issue, but the gears in these cases over time just mesh with one and other and eventually make noise. The only way to make it go away completely was to swap out the cluster and/or gears themselves. He also told me not to worry about it as it won't affect the operation of the T5. Besides, if I'm gonna break something in this thing, it's gonna be from abuse most likely?

Nic I have some 351W stuff taking up space on my shelf Id let go discounted if you decide to do anything. I have some dished 1.60" height pistons (302ci or 393ci) and some 1.28" (408ci), hell I even have a fully machined 74 351W block.

The engine is home from the machine shop after being magged- no cracks! It's actually in such good shape, there was some miscommunication at the shop and they ball honed the cylinders, thinking I was just going to throw pistons in it and run it, lol. It does have some slight ridging, and I want to do this build right, so I am still going to have it bored. Also going to stud the bottom end and line-hone it.

By the way, they only washed the block, thus why it still looks rusty. It will obviously get a true cleaning and paint eventually.
