I am seriously thinking about building my own CAI. I had one lined up to buy from a friend but since the unemployment wall smacked me head on, can't afford it now. I found this one website that sells some open box/returned filters. I want to know which is going to be best for my application. I will get all the tubing and such for free from a friend, but the filter is something I will have to spend money on.

Build Your Own Cold Air Intake System from these high flow filters, straight tubes, junctions, elbows and adapters

I got the pipe. My friend has some civics that he has been building a rally car with and each one has regular aftermarket intakes so I am gonna salvage the steel pipe from those. One other thing, how low in the fender well should the filter go?

Depending on how often you drive in the rain, or how often you want to check/clean the filter will determine how low in the fender you should go...

It is not all that desirable to go low in the fender

As said ... you run the chance of sucking up water and
hydrolocking your motor

Also ... You can't go low without a bend

Bends offer more restriction

I'm thinking of a 20° elbow. I don't think I am going to go way low. Maybe 6 inches into the fender well. Like you said, too much of a bend will restrict it and I want it to flow, so I think 20° would be good.
