Im sure this is a question that gets answered all the time, and i did a search, but the search engine was not effective, so forgive me for the repetitive question.
My aod is shot, im wondering if buying a built aod( like a pa, or a amp level 3) would suffice. My car is a 91GT with heads cam and intake (carbed). So im pushing about 350 or so and plan on juicing it with about 150 next season. The tranny was shot in the car when i bought it so i dont know how the AOD's feel with a performance motor, all ive ever had is 5 speeds.
Or should i spend the extra duogh and do a c4 swap. I know there is alot i gota change out to make the c4 go in, thats why im hoping a built badass aod would get me going.
Thanks for your time guys

Check out this site. http://www.ford-aod.com/#Performance Parts

I say the AOD is capable of holding what you want with a good rebuild. Some good clutches and either a new valve body(Art Carr, Lentech. etc..) or add a shift kit to your valve body. Had a buddy rebuild his AOD and ran the stock vavle body and ran in the 10's with a blown 347. The only thing is the stock vavle body didn't have enough line pressure to hold up and glazed soem clutches. Not he has swapped to a Lentech with brake. I run an Art Carr AOD and love it. Just have to get my converter size figured out.

aods can be built to do ALOT but you need deep pockets. the ? here is you wont be able to drive long drives on the interstate with c-4 and 4.10's, ive heard of some people driving some distances with 3.55's and 28" tires.
just drive your car around in drive for a week if its still running and see if you can live with that much rpm, plus 200-300 more rpms due to the c-4 not having lock-up
