Hey.

I'll keep this nice and short and sweet.

I bought 17 inch chrome saleen replicas from www.crossroadzdirect.com
who, up until this point i was very happy with.

Now, my driver's side wheel is completely peeling off. There isn't a scratch, a ding, a mark, NOTHING on the wheel, and the entire inner portion of chrome is coming off.

The rims have been on my car from April 05 to October 05 (7 months)

I sent them an email
and have called which resulted in a voicemail because no one would answer the phone.

I am posting this message so others will know the dangers you face when you spend over $1000 on chrome rims. Beware! SOME companies do not stand behind their products and you should know which ones don't.

This is my bad experience and I hope you benefit from it.

Welcome to the chrome peeling club, the crapiest club to be a part of lol. I can't wait to get rid of my chrome peeling waffels. That sucks you can't get a hold of them and they are not responding back in a timely manner if at all they do get back to you. Email them this link so they can see bad new spreads faster then good news. Post this on snforums.com to warn them of your bad experience.

that sucks to hear, those wheels look nice on your car also. where is the chrome peeling, on the inside of the wheel? i was thinking of getting some saleen replica wheels but i guess i'll stick to my 03 cobras.

Well, i do appreciate that. They were nice when they weren't looking like ass LOL. I honestly don't know if it's just where I got the rims from or what. At this point my opinion is so twisted... I would suggest now to stick with your '03s.

Thanks wyt, it's such an honour to be apart of such a nice rounded club with equally frustrated members. :rlaugh:

I think the idea of forwarding this link is probably the smartest idea i've heard yet... thanks!
I think I just might do that.

Good luck sorting this out Doug....it sucks to spend loads of money on something and have problems not too far down the road...I'll pass it on if you'd like, as well...since I have "connections"

I lie, I have no connections but I like to think I do...

in my experiences with any type of modern day chrome wheel is that they all peel.

i dunno why, i have been told that it is the chemicals they are allowed to use these days.

the older stuff used a harsher chemical which has been banned by the gov.

good luck on getting them to own up.

i feel your best bet is to have them blasted down and powder coated.

I had problems with my Steeda Ultralite II's peeling on the clearcoat (satin finish wheels, not chrome).

Steeda was good and RMA'd me new wheels and I sent back the old ones.

Unfortunately, the new ones started peeling the clear off too, so I decided that I'm going to strip the rest of the clear off myself, polish them, and Zoopseal them.

That's so bad. See, i dunno, i must have lived under a rock. I mean i know this stuff can happen, it's just the timing of it all, and the lack thereof of time that it took for them to peel i think is what pisses me off the most.
i don't ask for anything perfect, but you've got to be kidding yourself if 7 months is all you get out of a chrome job.

hm, see, now that's all my real concern is.
given what i just said above, at least you had a company there and willing to help you out. See, i get a problem and the place i buy them from look the other way.
Sure they had great service and customer support when you're willing to spend $1000 + with their company. but i mean, now something happens and i have no one there helping me out. i'm rendered s.o.l.

that's what i don't like, to after-purchase support. :notnice:

Say cool! my fellow Cannuk!

Remember when dealing with company's that have little or no idea what customer service is all about it's better to remain cool & collected, You'll get what you want without blowing a gasket. I deal with some pretty unruly people and when the BMW (%itching, moaning & whining) starts I go deaf! And I move real slow.

BTW it sucks that your rims are peeling, which is one of the reason I went the other direction myself.

Good luck

Thanks man :nice:

I haven't lost it yet... i'll be sending them another email monday, and give it the same timeframe
after that point, we'll see how far it goes.

i'll be totally honest, i really don't expect a response from them regardless if i lose my cool or not lol.
sucks man

That sucks Doug. I was once a member of that club myself and that's why I'll never own a set of chrome wheels again. I opted for polished wheels because no matter how bad they get, I can make them look new again with some TLC. The maintenance is higher, but they can always look good.

Thanks Paul. :(

I would have never guessed that chrome would peel that easily, or frequently with people. But you know it's funny, even if you would have told me I still wouldn't have believed it.
It's too bad man.
I love chrome too.

I'll keep you posted :(

I'm getting someone to get me a price on a re-chrome, and apparently this guy guarantees his work... a peel happens, he'll replace it.

My cobras peeled that i had on my red mustang. i still have them sitting in my basement. I think i might get them powder coated at this point.

thats an idea for you. powder coat them white.
