c-4 power limit

so i was at the local chassis shop (sub-frames and roll cage getting installed:D ) and the guys that worked there basically told me that the c4 was junk for my application. they said there is no way it will last with my setup, mabey a pass or 2. they said go with a c6, then later changed there mind to a powerglide (chevy guys) does this sound right? i thought the c4 is one of the best there is??? my original plan was a hardened input shaft b&m or tci rebuild kit and a manual valve body,
also ~3200-3500 stall-- if it matters
please tell me that the c4 will be fine, i already have one and really dont want to have to buy another

thanks
travis

a properly rebuilt(nothing trick) C4 with performance frictions and steels, kevlar bands and a shift kit will take 400-450hp no sweat. Throw in a hardened input shaft and a few oiling mods, you get into the mid 500 range. More that that and you'll want to consider aftermarket planetaries, roller bearings, rev/man valve body, etc. Never take advice from a chevy guy.

:D They may be Chevy guys, but they were right. :D Every C-4 I've ever had, left me on the side of the road eventually. Yea, you can make em last a little longer by pouring money into them, but that's true of any other automatic trans. A C-6 may be heavier and take more power to turn, but it'll outlast a C-4 everytime. Give me a C-6 or a Toploader 4 speed anyday over a C-4. :nice: You can spend what you want on a C-4, but eventually it WILL break with too much power.

I'm in the process of building a C4 as I write this. I just finished racing a built AOD, but the weight and rotating mass was too high which is about the same as a C6 being too heavy. I will let you know if it holds up behind my 427 stroker this season.
