Anyone out there using C&L Mass Air meters on their 89-93 Mustangs? How do they compare to Pro M? I have a 90 LX 5.0 with a cobra Intake, 65MM TB, Headers, XPipe, and CatBack Exhaust. Which size Mass Air should I be using?

i have a pro m and its been great do a search on it . i dint like the qulaity of the c@l seemed poorly built.

I went with the Pro M chrome bullet style calibrated for a fender mount cold air intake as well as for my 24 lb injectors after a discussion with my engine builder and some other racers. They have plenty of styles and you can get them calibrated for specific needs. As for size, when I was looking for a meter Pro M had a chart on their website for meter size compared to horsepower you have.

Let's see... C&L is still in business... and Pro M isn't. Who would you trust? I know who I would.

pro-m is still in busniess. they were out for a little bit and has nothing to do with their product. their product is of top quality. the c&l is not a mass air. it tricks your comp into thinking it is basically. and once you get to 24's you have driveability issues. and forget it if you want to go 30's and higher.

I have a 331 with a c&l 76mm meter with 30 lb injectors with a stock computer with no drivability issues. It drives great and idles nice with the XE274HR. I will be switch to a pro-m 80mm soon, not because I don't like the c&l, I also have one on my 03 Mach1, but because I am going to be running a power pipe.

Pro M had some financial trouble but they are back with new partners. It is not a reflextion of their meters. They are the only meter that is a "meter". The others just trick your computer. BTW Ford, GM, Chrysler and so on and so forth have all had money problems so do you still buy cars???

I never knew Ford, GM, or Chrysler went out of business cause they couldn't keep it together?? Hum... new to me.
ummm...in 1980 Chrysler had to go to the US Government for a loan just to stay in business, then they came out with the Caravan and saved the day for themselves. But it was just an example of how lots of business have money probs. Some of the businesses are so large they just lay-off or downsize or restructure. Pro M was small and didn't have that luxury. But people have their own preferences on brands thats what makes this country great :)

I used both on my stang and found each of them worked just fine. The only thing I noticed was the C&L seemed to be a bit quicker off the line. SOTP meter agreed, felt a little stronger. I personally don't think you can go wrong with either. As for quality...the C&L was a robust unit...well built, but true...didn't have the flashy chrome finish that the ProM had. I think you will find camps worshiping both sides on this issue. I would think my future plans through and try and go with what helps out in the long run...motor upgrades, etc.. MAS recalibrations, C&L sample tube swaps, etc.

I'll be the first, but not the last, in this thread to say I have had a bad experience with a C&L. Worked great for me when I had 19# injectors. When I switched to 30# ers, I had nothing but troulbe, car wouldn't start unless gas pedal was put to the floor, (yes I had the right sample tube). Got my Pro-M 80mm, no problems. For me, C&L is junk. It has worked for some people though.

that is the thing. c&l is hit and miss, it works for some and not others because it just tricks the computer.

i wont get into a big argument because anyone who uses a c&l is obviously going to say get it.

i just had an experience with the new pro-m company. (http://www.massairsystems.com/) i sent in my meter for recalibration. they received it on monday, i had an email from ups on wednesday. so not even 2 business days to recalibrate the meter. its due back to me today, ill see how the car runs, im expecting the same old pro-m standard though.

i know some people who have had issues with c&l as well. i will never buy one of the meters. not worth the headache.

Good luck with your recal'd meter. I am extremely pleased with my Pro-M. The new company has seemed to pick up and be running a good operation. I have called them a few times with diff. questions, and every time they have been helpful and willing to answer my questions.

Pro M tricks the computer as well... they use electronics to do so, C'n'L uses air flow thru a sample tube.

Either way you look at it, both meters trick the computer into seeing something that resembles stock parameters.

Pick your evil.

The only true way to have a proper functioning aftermarket MAM is to have a custom chip burned, then, no one is tricking the computer, the computer is recal'd based on the parameters at hand.

I ran the C'n'L with 19's, had great success (see sig.) and have since run the same C'n'L with new sample tube and 24's with no issues, running a very aggressive cam, and no custom chip for either setup.
