c6 will it bolt up??

i found a c6 transmission for sale for a pretty good deal, i want to buy it but i am unsure weather or not it will bolt up without modification to my 302, i am pretty new to this stuff
i don't know if it matters but i have a c4 right now..

if it's a small block or big block C6. SB would fit fine.

does it matter if the transmission was originally in a truck?
a friend told me that there were different gears in the truck transmissions..

Is there something wrong with the C4? The C6 will suck up more hp than the C4 will and the aftermarket for the C4 is quite large.

yeah i am still unsure as to what is wrong with my c4, i have reverse but have lost all forward gears.. i then ran across this c6 and just thought it would be easier /cheaper to just swap it...
so what you are saying is the c4 is better than a c6?

Not better over all. Niether trans is better over all. Its the application they are used for. A C4 is better for a small block unless you are making stupid amounts of power. Even then a C4 can usually be built to handle damn neer anything. Your C4 is toasted and need a rebuild (at least I'd bet). Does it have enough fluid in it ? Other then that it sounds like you need a rebuild.

It sounds like the forward clutches are toast. I would stick to a C4 too. There is nothing wrong with a C4. A shift kit will help them live. If you don't want hard shifts, transgo makes one that is designed to extend the life w/o harsh shifts. If you go to a C6 the driveshaft will possibly need shortened. The output shaft may be different splines and u-joint size. May use a different cross member, starter, speedo gear, dipstick, shift linkage, kick down etc. Do your homework. Get the answer to all these questions before starting. It may be a can of worms.

remember that there are three different C6 bellhousing bolt patterns;

small block

FE big block

385 series big block
