California Emissions Question - If I move, get 2.2 KB, then move back

Here's probably a silly question:

What if I move to another state where the 2.2 KB is legal, get the 2.2 KB, then move back to California? Do I have to remove the 2.2 KB?

A related question would be: What if I move to another state where it is legal to swap in a big engine, swap in a huge engine that is not emissions-legal in Cally, and then move back to Cally? Do I have to remove the big engine?

bdcardinal?

I'm going through the same thing...Once you move back, you have to register and resmog just like every other car coming into the state. They don't care if you used to live there.

Why not get a 1.7KB 6#...aren't those 50 state legal...could of sworn they had and E.O.#

So you're saying I'd have to remove the 2.2 if I moved back to Cally, I guess.

I'm leaning very strongly toward the 1.7.

I guess I'm trying to stamp out my lingering slim feeling that maybe I should get the 2.2, somehow, even though I live in Cally, and even though it's my daily driver.

My KB for the 5.0L was smog legal, but the only way the smog shop knew was because the KB had a CARB sticker on it.. now what would the smog shop say if you were able to put that same CARB sticker on the 2.2L? :D

That's an interesting idea, but I'm afraid of getting caught.

You could always play it off like you bought the car that way. I've tried to smog my car a few times with parts that weren't smog legal, and the most that happens is you get sent home.
