So, I live in San Diego and Im wondering what would be the best sounding and performing option when it comes to exhaust for a 2005 GT. And still be legal by CA standards. I know long tubes are out of the question but what mid-pipe, and how many cats do i NEED?

I have had Flowmasters before on my Jeep and loved them...but that was a 4.2L straight six...and I havent heard them on a 2005+.

Thanks
Mike

Thats one reason I wish I still lived in IL. On my old jeep we just took an iron rod to punch through the cat straight to a Flowmaster. Too bad CA has so many damn rules.

BigMike, have a look at the thread on the FRPP 5230-GTA axle-backs (New Muffs Ordered). They're 50-state legal and give a nice sound (maybe a few more HP but not much). FRPP also makes an X-pipe that might also help. FRPP or JBA shorty headers look nice, but I doubt they will make any HP gain, and they're pretty pricey.

You can put hiflow cats on as they will pass visual and smog here. Most "mainstream" shops won't install them but most tuner places will.

Headers are pretty much out unless you know of a smog shop that will ignore them. Or you don't mind unbolting when the time comes. But you do risk a cop popping your hood if he pulled you over for speeding or for exhaust noise. At least you will pass the sniffers with most of them. I really don't know why no manufacture has not submitted their headers for CARB excemption. ???

Almost all Catbacks are CARB legal as they are rated as OEM replacement parts. I say most. If it's some straight pipe style out back with no baffling, you won't pass 92db max sound limit anyways. A board cop will nab ya for that.

I run the Corsa axle backs because they sound mean and have ZERO DRONE. I mean none! They look hot too. They are also the only ones to claim (dyno sheets too) any real boost in HP and throttle response. I noticed it, you might not.

I don't really need headers or hiflows when I am supercharging the motor now *and* it's all CARB legal. Why mess with it? It's fast as hell.
