Calling all people with an o/r h or x pipe

So if my stock H is totally rusted over, and I have to totally torch that thing off, what will I be able to switch back to before emissions? What did you do?

I have swapped mid-pipes on mustangs about 5-6 times, and I can tell you, It's not hard at all. The situation of having to use a torch is a rare occurance, imo. The rust had to really "glue" the bolts in place.

Sray the bolts with WD-40 a day or two ahead of time, and also when you go under there to actually swap the midpipe. They bolts may be a little tough to break loose, but they will breaK loose. Like said before, it should be about a 1-2 hour job if it is your first time doing it.

Good luck. If I lived closer, I would offer to help.

8 bolts! Thats all it is. Shouldnt take more then a half hour!
:rlaugh: Yeah for a seasoned mechanic on a lift, not for someones first time pulling it off. If you can do it in 30min w/ jackstands you can work for me anytime. :D
What about if the bolts that have never been broken loose before are rusted and he does'nt have an impact gun?
What about crawling under the car under jack stands and fighting that heavy asz 4 cat pipe?
What about trying to line it up to the headers and then getting the nuts on the studs?
It's not the same for everyone and especially if you live in an apt or townhome where you're not allowed to do repairs.

IMO it's worth $50 to not even go through the hassle of jacking the car up on all 4 corners and puttin in jack stands, then fighting w/ the pipe and rusted bolts. :nice:

It's not hard to do at all. The worst part about it has to be taking the old POS h-pipe on. If you have a friend to help you, it shouldnt be hard at all. Me and my friend put on his 5 piece bassani x-pipe last weekend and it took us about 2 hours of crawling around in the dirt with a ton of breaks.

For the record, I would pay JR the $50 just so I could drool over his car in person, lol. I promise I would bring a towell and an extra pair of pants. :jester:
