Cam and tune ?

You can rent those little toe dollies from uhaul for $75 I think. In my book, thats $75 well spent. 212 miles is a LONG way.
My rule for stuff like this is, "Only drive as far as you are prepared to walk"

So that would be about 42 hours of walking...
 
For those that are saying it isn't safe, I would challenge them to explain why.

Here is my reasoning for why you will be ok. Assuming the cam install was correct and everything mechanically is fine, the cam does nothing to change the MAF reading. The MAF still knows just as well as before the cam swap, how much air is going into the engine. Now insome cases, it can require some tuning to adjust the injector timing to keep the from spraying on the back of the intake valve, but this is not something that would likely effect the a/f ratio during closed loop since the EEC will adjust to it. This is easy enough to find out, just drive it around for a while before going on any trip. If the a/f is too rich or too lean for the EEC to adapt to, then it will throw a code.

More then likely it will be lean and have some idle/drive issuses. Other than that,if you can deal with the driveability glitches you'll be fine. You could also have your tuner send a file to help with it some until it gets tuned.

it *should* be fine. at part throttle, the ecu will still be able to throw enough fuel into the mix to keep everything good. Just dont go WOT, the ECU might not be able to compensate for the difference in airflow at full throttle as compared to part.

Sure WOT and idle are going to be a little rough just dont go WOT:). But you are not going to hurt anything. WOT is where the majority of your tuning will be anyway, so just take it easy and you'll be fine.

When I was putting together the 396 in my 97 Camaro drag car two years ago, I had a 256/[email protected]" solid roller camshaft that we had just put in. I drove all the way from New Braunfels, TX to Houston, TX (about a two hour drive) and I had absolutely no problems.

I am assuming you have already checked piston to valve/cylinder head clearance?

I haven't actually ordered the cams. I want them but I was debating between the cams and the P-51 intake. If I can make it to my tuners then I would prefer the cams. I hope that the piston clearance will be fine I have notched pistons. I plan on ordering them in the beginning of Jan.
