I have a new motor in the works right now, and i need help selecting a cam and roller rockers. These are the specs for the motor as of now.
-Stock block .30 over
-DSS 306 pro lite rods and flat top, fly cut pistons
-Ported E7's w/ 3 angle valve job (all i can afford right now)
-Ported/port matched stock intake manifold. (all i can afford right now)
-All the other crap in my sig
So i need a cam? i dont quite know how to find the best match for this setup. i am obviously leaving room for improvement with the heads and intake, but not in the very near future. so i need a cam to work good for now! I dont have the money for a custom grind so im stuck with off the shelf cams right now. Im thinkin either the E or B303, steeda # 18 or 19, or the crane cams powermax 2031. Any suggestions would be awesome.....thanks guys

Well for the money you cant go wrong with a "B" (and u can prolly find one used) I run the Steeda #18 and it works well also although it has a smoother idle than the B if that matters to you.Comp cams Extreme XE270HR wouldnt be a bad choice either (218/224 dur, .512 lift, 114 lobe sep, 1800-5800 rpm) but It will probably cost more than the #18 and definately more than a B. Hope this helps...Are you going to be running Thumper ported E7's and Tmoss Intake? also what gears are you using?

I will be doing the porting on the intake.....i have an entire machine shop at my disposal....but i think i will be having the local engine builder doing the heads. I am running 3.73's. thanks a lot for the help and suggestions. i think im going to research that extreme comp cam a little more now....looks like it has higher lift than either of the other two. how does your steeda cam run? did u notice a big drop in low rpm torque? where does the power really start comming on? thanks again for your help!

the comp cams lift is .512 the B and #18 is 480 (all with 1.6 rockers) but I use 1.72 rockers with my #18 and that makes the lift .516.Honestly the #18 is a good all around cam and it seems to work quite well with my combo, the power comes on around 2500 rpm and pulls real hard up to 6000 rpm.If I was in the market for another cam and still was using my current combo I would prolly go with the the 270 comp cam.
