CAM info for a NOOB

I need help understanding Camshafts, can someone tell me info like What does Duration mean? Lift? RPM RANGE? and So forth! what brands are good also would be a plus! and the best Cam for a GT40P Head?!

as far as a cam for a gt40 head....Id say check out a trick flow stage one or check out anderson n-21....they are both good cams for that head, I cant help as far as explainining everything, I just know what they mean and can fig them out haha

Hey check out www.fordraceing.com I think it is or a site that hooks you up with the Ford parts catologue or on the stangnet top 100 you will find fords site on it are downloads that explain all that you ask. Much easier than someone trying to explain. Hope this helps.

duration is in degress (out of 360) for how long the cam keeps the valves open, lift is cam lift X roller rocker ratio and gives you how long you valves are open in inches. If you want a streetable cam, you want a lower duration to have good torque at the bottom end, if you want a track cam then you want a long duration/lift (but idle quality will definitely suffer. When you get a cam with a high rpm range, you have no bottom-end power and all your engine's power is in the high rpm range. Always match you cam to you intake/exhaust setup ect, ect.........
