Will a cam give you more hp
Yes for sure ... but ... Is it worth it if you look at the big picture
I'm no cam Guru but I do feel I got a basic understanding about how all
the various parts work together ... good or bad
You got a basic GT40 combo at this time and they usually run in the
range of 245 to 275 rwhp dynojet sae calibration
The whole GT40 combo thing was designed around OEM Iron heads
that have VERY POOR exhaust efficiency
Those combos also were setup for a bit of extended rpm range
but
You gotta stay within reality here :Word:
I mean ... heavy roller lifters and wimpy OEM v springs won't do much
So ... having laid all that down you should see how limitations are in place
Talking big 3 (h/c/i) If you move away from OEM and go to aftermarket ...
Unless you go aftermarket with ALL 3 you kinda shoot yourself in the foot
as far as getting the BEST performance
I'd say those shortys are holding you back big time in your low/mid rpm
range
For a NA street combo ... LT's make such a difference in that area
For what you now got .................
I'd think a custom cam and sharp tune would give you .......
The most go for the least dough
The cam guy will take what you now got and be able to tell you what is
possible AND he can also tell you what might be possible if you go to
different combo parts
My reasoning is the cam and tune will give you good gains and still stay
within the narrow range of rpm you got to work with
NOW ... you gotta ask yourself

What gains if I went with the big 3 aftermarket combo parts and stayed NA
290 to 310 rwhp dynojet sae calibration
To get the best performance you gotta have all the supporting parts which
you certainly don't have at this time
So ... You got a lot of cash laid out for not all that much more hp
Maybe some juice or a blower might be considered
Here are some NA combos based around OEM IRON heads
and Aftermarket Aluminum heads
Hope this gives you some stuff to think about
