Hey, I have alot of money coming my way in a few weeks and wanted to know which cam, lifters and timing chain I should go with. Ive heard comp cams 268H is great. What Timing chain? Ill probably go non roller. And lifters, are the summit racing hydraulic replacements good? Also, when installing a cam, I set the crank to TDC and then put the cam in, line up the dots on the timing gear set it on and I am good to go? Do i have to degree it? Should I go all felpro? I will also be redoing my head gaskets. thanks guys

Going to pick up a cam tommorow, I need to know if the High energy 268H is the cam for me, Im looking for a cam that will give me great bottom end torque, very responsive off the line, is the 268H the one for me?

Mike

Personally I like the XE274H. Decent bottom end, good throttle response. Haven't installed it yet so as of now this is still an opinion

If you're going to go with a Comp Cams cam, then get a their timing set as well, go for a double roller set. This way you don't have to worry about degreeing it. That cam will get you good off-line response, but will run out of steam at about 5000-5500 rpms. Also recommend using Comps' lifters as well. You have a good handle on how to set up the cam when putting it in. :nice: One other word on installing it though, only appy a thin film of assembly lube on the cam and lifter bottoms ( not the sides of the lifters) and use a non detergent 30 weight oil to break it in. Run it at break-in as per Comps instructions, then shut it down and change the oil and filter. Also prime the oil system BEFORE starting it up to break it in.

Thanks guys, I bought the 268H today and brought it to my builder, For all who care, the short block is completly stripped, the block was next in line for boring and honing. The engine (302 mexican) had been rebuilt before and will receive the next size up .040. My cam which was not stock according to my builder had a # on it 218 H if i remember correctly, anyone know what cam this is? Anyways getting excited, but in reality the engine wont be placed back into the car until late this summer due to my budget. Anyone know for sure if a 1966 6cyl c-4 will bolt up to my engine? Im not sure if the 6cyl c-4 and v-8 c-4 are any different. My current tranny is a 1966 tranny and did bolt up to my later 302. Thanks

Mike
