So I was on my way back home from my parent's house this evening (about an hour ago at midnight) with my G/F as a passenger and I notice a newer LS1 Z28 with some black Corvette wheels SS wing HID's and some shiny tailpipes at the feeder road of the highway turning into town as I'm headed out.

This guy sees me pass by, REVERSES (on the feeder which is a one way) cut over to the turnaround lane and proceeds to slowly creep up to me thinking I hadn't notice any of all the number of illegal things that he just accomplished hoping to score a good kill.

At this point he swerves all the way to the left lane and starts to creep up to my car (very casually like he'd been on the freeway all along) and gets next to me. I notice two guys in there "hootin' and hollerin'" and they spike the gas a couple of times hoping I'd flinch (as I'm going the speed limit). Driver gets mad and proceeds to do a ricer flyby and takes off. Only difference is that this time since I have my trusty S197 and I thought that the Z28 looked very slow and I remember thinking that my car would definitely own their ass if I decided to give them a run which I wouldn't consider for a million bucks so I flip on the blinker and take the first exit away from these bozos. Of course they get off the next exit hoping I'd ride the feeder and stop at a light next to them but I cut back on the freeway and go on about my business.

Well for once I'm real happy that the new Camaros will be expensive cars because that eliminates a ton of riff raff looking to score some street racing victories on the cheap. At the same time I was happy to see just how much the Mustang has progressed with time and it has become a great car with plenty of go from the factory. :SNSign:

Yea, goes with the territory. You get a lot of unwanted attention in these cars.
I'm still amazed at how much I get in this 06 GT, never got it in my 98 GT. Everybody and their brother wants to race me. I get revved at, ricer fly by's, and the ever popular burnout requests from total strangers. Some get a little pissed when you don't "light 'em up" but Hell, they don't have to pay for the tires.

I live in a small town where there isn't many s197 Gt's so my car really stands out. I've had idiots in mustangs, ricers, and pickup trucks trying to race me in some of the absolute dumbest places (heavy traffic, 25 mph zones, blind intersections) I swear some people have ZERO common sense. Most of the time it's some punk kid.

Congratulations for reacting the way you did. Street racing kills people. You showed great restraint and intelligence.

I raced a LS1 Camaro SS with all the bolt-ons and a short exit exhaust (half-way under car). We went from 55-XXX and I only lost by a fender and I even hit the gas after he did. I hung in there. He still won, but I bet he was thinking he was going to R@PE me. About a week later I raced a LS1 TransAm from 0-70 and pulled a full car on him. He had intake and exhaust. He was looking all nasty at my car and goosing his throttle, then when I hit the brakes and he flew by he put his hand out the window. I was expecting the bird, but he didn't make any gestures.

Here's your answer:

Z28: LS1 5.7 V8 310 bhp @ 5200 rpm, 335 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm.
SS: LS1 5.7 V8 320 bhp @ 5200 rpm, 345 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm.

Performance:
Z28: 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, 1/4 mile in 14.0 seconds @ 101.3 mph.
SS: 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds @ 105.6 mph.

S-197 Mustang GT
Horsepower : 300 hp @ 5750 rpm
Torque : 320 lb-ft @ 4500 rpm
Redline : 6250 rpm

0-60 mph : 5.1 sec.(manual)
0-¼ mile : 13.9 sec @ 104.0 mph

It looks like mustang pulls ahead early and gets passed at the end of the 1/4

I hope all of this racing was done on the track, not on the street where innocent people can be killed.
It is my understanding that this site in no way encourages street racing.

You are right. No pedestrians, or roads were harmed in these experiments.

You wanna know the funny thing... My 05 GT is my first Ford vehicle. I've always driven Chevys, and I've always noticed that the people going out of their way for a race, and usually acting like a complete a--hole, were the Fox platform owners...

I always swore that I'd never buy a Mustang because I didn't want to be lumped in with the typical Mustang owners. Then when the 2005's came out, I couldn't resist. I'm not sure what that says about me. But even now, in my Ford, it's the same people looking for a race. I've had my Mustang for 3 years and I've only had one delinquent in a Chevy try to race me.

By the way, I race at the track, not the street. It's not worth the risk.

Those are sorry numbers for the Mustang ... I don't know about the Camaro though. I've seen much better from the Mustang than that, much better.

I've seen much better for the Camaro too. Like high 12s stock. Stock for stock between an S197 and an LS1 I'd say it'd probably be a close race. The F-body has a LOT more power (they typically put over 300 to the wheels bone stock), but a good bit more weight too (few hundred pounds I think). But once the cars aren't stock anymore, mild bolt ons will get power from the LS1 that a 4.6 neess a blower for. If the Mustang is NA, my money would be on the modded LS1 (obviously within reason, not if "modded" LS1 has a catback and the GT has cams and heads hahaha).

In any event, good job on being responsible and ignoring the idiots. I don't know that I would have gotten off the highway though, if you ignroe them they go away. I wouldn't say that is a "Camaro owner" thing though, because idiots buy all kinds of cars, even Mustangs, and plenty of cool people drive Chevys. I find it kind of hilarious what the guy did too, I've never seen anyone go through such great lenths to race someone. What a retard. That's the type of person that is going to die in a car accident, or kill someone else.

On another note, since I've had my GT, I can only think of one person that ever tried racing me (it was a riced out civic), and that's it.. Funny though people wanted to race me all the time in my lifted Ram.

Well unfortunately in the dirty south stories of people getting shot by gang members etc are not just stories so I'm not about to cruise neck and neck on a freeway and give someone a clear shot at me or my passenger. I have been chased way too many times for no reason other then ignoring someone or looking someone in what they thought was the wrong way, so prudence is always #1 on my list.

As far as 505 that's my trusty Auto-X number I use. Some say it stands for SOS as in I need a lot of help.

Ever tried? Unless the LS1 is in a corvette the S197 stands a good chance. I still see it as a drivers race.

Assuming that neither are automatic of course.
